I did an oil change recently, with 5w50 castrol edge, and the engine runs pretty good on it, never get a low oil pressure light, and idles just under 2 bar. But the valvetrain is a bit noisy, and I picked up a bottle of Redline 20w50, im planning to add. Id rather not drain any oil. (it leaks enough!) right now after sitting for a few days the dipstick reads right in the middle. Would it be safe to add 1qt to that? _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

Just want to add. I run 5W50 Castrol Syntec on the '82. The local autoparts store had a 'dump" sale on the rest of their Syntec for less that $3 a quart a few years back
I bought'em out
This is pre Edge syntec and I now have a good few years left of supply for the '82
Car runs great on it and pressure is good as well. Will eventually take a look at the camshaft for giggles. It was a good, no wear, matched tappet/lobe pull from an AMC head _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

Valve train will remain noisy regardless of oil..... _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

I believe so but I am not sure. There was a thread on this and somebody of forum past answered the question if memory serves but I don't have that archived.
We the car was purchased, the PO either acquired it in poor shape of at least attempted a partial restore. The engine was decent except the cam/tappets. Rear lobes were practically squared off
The AMC head I had on the shelf had a good cam and tappets so it was thrown in to get the car going. It remains _________________ 1980 931 since 1989
