I'm having my k26 turbo rebuilt with my local shop. They reported that the turbine housing (the cast iron one) has deep cracks, and they're recommending I find a new/used one in good condition.
In addition, they said the turbine shaft was scored and corroded, and recommend I find a new one also.

So a couple questions:
1. the shaft, is it balanced with any other parts of this specific turbo? Or can I find another shaft and put it in?
2. The housing, is it an off the shelf k26 housing? or is there any specific porsche 931 aspects to it?
3. Does anybody know where the best place to get replacement parts are? Anyone here have them for sale? Just start looking on eBay?
4. Anything else to consider before trying to source these 2 parts? Maybe a kit to convert to another turbo? Is it worth rebuilding this one? Should I just look for a total replacement rather than trying to salvage this one? _________________ 1980 931

Any turbo shop worth their salt should have a source for KKK parts
1. The shaft and turbine wheel can be bought new. They are one unit
2. #4 or #6 turbine housing crack, period. Some crack more or less than each other, but they crack. You will be extremely lucky to find a new one, near impossible. Full NOS turbos are out there for $1000++. The turbine housing is specific to the turbo exhaust manifold due to the 3 bolt
3. As mentioned above, any good turbo shop will/should have a good KKK source for new parts.....shafts, compressor wheels, bearings, seals etc.
4. Lots of turbo discussions on this forum as well as more knowledgable folks than myself. What is the expectation of the turbo performance for your car?
Good luck _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife
