|
|
Hey all,
My 82' 931 has the copper braided strap going from the negative battery terminal, onto the body, and then to the top of the intake manifold on one of the two protruding mounting points.
I was interested to see online that this is not usually where the car is grounded, and also that some 931's even have a different intake manifold.
I was wondering where the usual grounding point is, I havent seen an obvious spot down on the bell housing, but I'm expecting it to be somewhere down there.
I am also now curious what those two mounting points on the top of the intake manifold are actually for. I dont think I've seen a picture with them actually being used.

I think that ground is mostly for the overboost switch on the upper charge tube, so the overboost switch has something to ground to.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

I would think it holds the gas-kabel support bracket (LHD) in that place on the S2 Turbo LHD engines.
One could use the bolds either side of the Coil to support a ground strap between the engine.
Kind regards,
Harm. |

Oh.. Yeah I didn't see the pics..
Those mounting points that you have the ground strap on are supposed to be for the throttle cable bracket like Harm said..
The ground strap for the intake goes somewhere on this bracket here circled in green.. To give the upper charge tube a good ground..
Atleast on my S1.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Thanks for the replies (and technical support, sorry about the images )
In terms of grounding straight from the battery, Ill have a look at putting it near the coil like Harm said. Is this the usual point? |

From the coil mount, yes, to the rearmost intake bolt.
The charge tube should ground by that bracket directly to the main body of the intake. At least on the cars I've seen. _________________ Vaughan Scott
