I think I’ve read that it’s possible to install an intercooler with an S1 setup, but as I understand, there are more options for an S2. For the purpose of installing an intercooler, what parts are required beyond the upper charge tube and throttle body? Do you need the intake manifold? Is the lower charge tube required? Anything else? _________________ 1980 - 931 |

If you are referring to an Ideola set up, you would need an S2 throttle body. Pretty sure its bolt on which I could check later today. Upper charge tube is no longer needed. Depending on how you connect to the turbo, the lower charge tube remains or is replaced as well
Of course the sky is the limit beyond that. The beauty of the Ideola options was "bolt on".
With fab skills you can pretty much build anything as has been proven here time and again _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

Thanks Mike. I think I found the info I was looking for in your post and as well as this older post I found from Ideola...

To do the S2 conversion, you need the intake, the charge tube, the throttle body complete with throttle position switch, the big black rubber exterior seal (seals charge tube to TB and NLA from Porsche), and the linkage assembly that bolts to the mani. You also need to do some splicing to convert the wiring from the S1 micro switches to the S2 TPS.
...
There are two additional TB seals you will need: TB to intake (same as used on 944/924S and still available from Porsche), and the inner o ring that goes on the groove of the TB to seal it inside the charge tube. This latter o ring is NLA, but the dims are listed in PET, so you can look those up and order a suitable replacement from a variety of o ring suppliers. |
Tried searching for the info beforehand but didn't find this until now. _________________ 1980 - 931 |

I have a 1981 924 turbo with the engine, transmission and wiring harness from a 1980 car. The previous owner did the S2 intake conversion as well. If you need close up pictures of anything let me know. I have one of ideola's intercoolers...just need to find the time to get it installed.
The small black tubing connects to the boost gauge. And yes, the overboost switch is not operational.
