I am duly impressed. And I thought I'd created the world's costliest 924! _________________ '79 NA 924 Land Speed Car

Absolutely amazing. Your parts fabrication and engineering are top notch and you have many unique and cost saving solutions. I really liked your approach for the strut tower brace, simple and cheap. Also your lower caster block brace is quite unique and an often overlooked but quite necessary part. I do wonder why you went with AAN over using the VW 1.8T. _________________ Mike

The 5 pot sound? Potential 400hp? _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

5 pot sound is the best.
I have a 5 cyl diesel and even that one sounds great.
Wish the 924 came with a 5cyl from the start. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

I was not running down the I5, I had one of the early Audi Coupe Gt's(wish I still had it). I was best driving car I ever had. I didn't realize the equipment available for that motor until I looked up 034 motorsports. I wish we had parts like that available. Also a reasonably reliable 400hp in that car would be amazing. _________________ Mike

There were a couple of motivations to go with the 5-cyl.
1. The AAN engine bolted up to the 931 bellhousing and didn't require any adapter plates or anything to make it work.
2. We wanted to go with a slightly bigger displacement of the 2.2L 5-cyl so it wouldn't be as stressed as a high-strung 2.0L 4-cyl.
3. The 5-cyl is freaking cool and looks like it is supposed to go there.

Naaa, the in-line fives back then were heavy boat anchors. We had an early audi 80, the engine were gutless and heavy, i rather have the 2.0 _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Ah...the AAN is 2.2L, 4valves/cylinder, awesomeness. |

Aan is a different animal, Mid 70s in-line fives were less awesome i can assure you fives sound cool and are fairly compact, though the gas exchange is a mess they can work really well. Definitely a much better use of the engine than having in sitting in a front heavy audi
A couple of years ago they were super common, especially as drag cars over here in audi s2s etc. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Well...if you do this long enough eventually you are going to wreck your car.
We had an incident at the race this past weekend that resulted in contact with the wall down the front straight of PIR at abut 60mph. The data showed that the car hit the wall at about a 120deg angle with -1G of LongAcc and -2.5G of LatAcc. Not the hardest hit in the world, but enough the tear up the front end of the car.
Started tearing it apart last night and I think that their is minimal frame damage and it can be repaired. My plan is to get the suspension damage repaired to get the car rolling and then take it to the alignment shop to measure the chassis to make sure it is ok before repairing everything up front.
