I'm planning on removing the EGR and Air injection systems and was wondering what if anything has to stay in order for everything to run properly, and if you have any tips.

What are the minimum vacuum lines needed. I know the most of the vacuum lines on this car are for the EGR and Air injection system but with those removed what's needed? I know you need the vacuum advance line from distributer to throttle body. What other lines are required.

Thanks, Ron

Ah that's to bad, can you describe how yours is?

Going over everything the only vacuum lines that are left once the smog stuff is removed are one from the throttle body to the distributer for vacuum advance, and one from the brake booster to the deceleration valve.

I don't see anything else, hopefully someone can confirm this.

On another note I have read different views on the need for the deceleration valve at all, on the plus side you get faster throttle/rpm response and a more stable idle, on the minus side I have read that some experience popping and backfire from sudden throttle release during shifting.

I'd be interested in what the guys have to say that have removed it.

Thanks, Ron

My decel valve has been defeated. With it connected it takes around a minute to come down to idle.

Must be something wrong with it, but there are no ill effects with it disconnected.

Minimum vac lines to retain are distributor advance, brake booster and engine breather. All else can go. When I owned my 84 Euro, that's all there was.

Hit up the Aussie owners for info, too, as they have ROW cars and you can model your vac system after theirs.

Definitely so. Too bad they are like $300.

anything new on this post? I'm looking at a EGR delete plate (hoses all busted up). Or I'm going to get some new hose and the connector pieces and hook back up.

When I replaced my exhaust with one from someone else on this board, the new exhaust had the EGR pipe deleted from the downpipe.

I just blocked off my EGR on the intake manifold, and all's good...

thanks tom, I removed the line, and capped off both sides. It wasn't hooked up before, so there no difference.
