I have gotten down towards the end of my resto process. It is time to put a radio into the car. I found a new modern one at Walmart made by Dual that fits perfectly and is only $19.84 but that is beside the point. My problem is finding power. Upon a lot of observation I could see at that at one time my car had a radio but it was removed and the wires are hanging there. In the resto process I installed 2 new rear speakers and checked out the front speaker and traced wires and checked with another radio and the work fine.
However my dilemma is getting power hooked up to the radio. The radio relay is missing but since it is the same socket& relay as the power windows I swapped the window relay to the radio plug. Now with the switch off, when I plug the relay into the plug it immediately clicks and power is sent to the red/blue wire in the two pronged power plug. Of course this is not good as the radio would be powered on all the time. So I have been searching for a source of switched power for the radio and have found one place (ie-the electric window switched wire) but I hate to just tap off that wire.
While reading posts on this board I ran into a reference to the key switch that says there is a plug on the switch that switches power on when the key is inserted. Is this true? Kind of strange but then a lot of things are on the 924. Perhaps this is kind of an accessory switch feature that functions when the key is inserted.
Any comments and anyone have this problem and found a solution? This board has been an invaluable source of knowledge for my resto process so I turn to it often. Looking for a fix.... Ted |

Try tapping fuse 11 which is on circuit x (accessory) no relay is needed. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

There is a line that switches on when you insert the key. This is the switched power for the radio (I think it powers one or two other things, too.) And since most radios want unswitched power, too, there should be a line in that part of the loom for that, too.
I also remember a mounting hole near the radio for a standard automotive relay with a mounting flag. This is probably a good idea - use the switched power to drive that. _________________ '82 British NA - Which I think I've been very lucky with! |
