Does anyone have a trick to getting to the top bolt of the bellhousing? It’s crowded up in there, and I just can’t get the leverage/range of motion combo to break it loose. I’m stalled in a clutch replacement on my 78 NA. THANKS! [/u]

Clutch change is a pain, just went through the process on my turbo. Is the torque tube removed ? that will help alot, i took it with an angled ratchet wrench from above. Cutting a long socket to perfect lenght could help aswell.

Thanks—I just got it with a combo of scoket wrench, lift handle, and a small sledge hammer. This project is testing my patience and grit. I’m already chalking it up to a character building weekend.

Just finished a clutch replacement on my 924 na. The top 19mm bolt was a royal pain in the behind on mine (possibly the worse part of the complete job). On mine the bolt goes through the bell housing, screws into the block then had a nut on the end so was never going to simply unscrew. To get it off I dropped the engine mount under the intake manifold which gave enough clearance to remove the bolt then the bolt came out.

Basically 1.5 hours work to remove one bolt

It went a bit better when i lowered the engine as much as possible on the engine mount threads, it gave a couple of mm extra clearance against the firewall.

At least reinstalling and tightening that bolt is easier than removing it!
