Thanks bro. It was unexpected for me as well.
I will write an article about my crash, my 924 life and my getting out of the 924 scene. It will probably be featured in the UK 924 owners club magazine but i'll make it available to this board as well under some form. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Rear passenger wheel cylinder had a tiny a leak that turned into a flood a couple weeks ago so I took the opportunity to replace both rear cylinders and rubber hoses (the hard lines are in great shape but the rubber was a bit stiff...), and the shoes on the side that burst. Brake fluid is a pain in the butt to clean up... While I was back there I replaced the rear shocks as well. That was a good project for today and thankfully the FLAPS had the right shoes even though their website said it wouldn't fit. Works fine... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Since I've already cracked open the brake system and have to bleed it anyhow, I am going to also replace the front brake hoses as they're as stiff as the rears, and do a flush. I hope to get this done before the weekend so I can have some fun driving it. I also got front struts and new strut tower bushes (yay VW fox for being the same at 1/10 of the cost!) so I will maybe get that done while I'm in there.
I also have a new rear hatch seal (thanks Ideola!) and plugs/wires/distributor cap and rotor to install, but that's pretty trivial by comparison...
I'm really looking forward to driving this thing with a solid brake pedal and actual damping for once! |

Don't you hate that!! I thought I was getting roped into IKEA this Sunday but instead, I got left at home yessssss.
The tops and sides of the cage are now fully welded, primed and ready to be painted. I was psyched to be able to get the cage low enough to get the tops welded confidently. Also psyched on spending the time experimenting to dial in overhead welding. It's always been a bit of a mystery to me but now I know how much extra arc force and wire feed is required. I know it was all part of the plan but execution is always it's own beast. I ended up using a beefy ratchet strap to pull the A pillars in tight enough to fit between the front footwells. Then the whole shebang could slide forward and downward about 300mm.
I could see the weld puddle all the way over the top then I used a USB camera/boroscope to check the welds and ended up having a dream about a race scrutineer finding a crack with an inspection mirror. Double checked this morning and found a pinhole that I will grind out and reweld so thanks subconscious me! The cage is now backin situ and some clamps are pulling the A pillars back into line.
Progress pics in reverse order:
Also adjusted the valve lash, installed a remote oil filter boss and new rocker cover gaskets:

I made a trip up to the mountains for the weekend with my 924S. I wanted to go kayaking with my new lady friend, but she had no way to transport a kayak. Not to worry, my mighty TwoFa is up to any task!
Over 800 miles all said and done and not so much as a hiccup. _________________ 1980 924 NA, US model
