Remember that time honored expression, "you can't win the race in the first corner, but you can lose it there?"
Well. . .watch the white/red car in the second lane from the right.

Personally I've always thought that piece of conventional racing "wisdom" was penned by a corner worker who never took the green in his/her life. While I've seen some pretty dumb moves at T1, frankly between the starting line and it lies the best location to gain positions on the cheap.

Wow, that takes guts, perfect timing and some serious driving skills. Deeply impressed. |

Dirt or snow do tend to change the rules.
It also helps to only have a very few cars on track with you.
Actually, the best/easiest time to gain positions is on the restart, IMO...
(Of course, the inverse is also true, and odds are that you're usually stuck behind some asshat who isn't paying and doesn't close up to the car in front during the yellow... so you lose more than you gain...) _________________ Vaughan Scott

It's not the going for the lead in L1 T1 that's usually the problem. It's the guy that tries to go from 21st to 12th by making it three wide. _________________ Hayes Lewis
