I've been trying to remove the cylinder head on my '80 931 to replace the head gasket and I'm pretty sure I've removed everything necessary to just lift it out of the car.....But it won't budge. I followed the instructions from this thread exactly and got to the point where I removed the 10 head bolts and still couldn't remove it.

I've looked at diagrams and noticed there are not only two bolts from the exhaust manny and turbo, but two more on the exhaust manny and J-pipe. Do those two on the latter have to be removed as well??

Three on the manifold to turbo. Two on manifold to J pipe. All need to be removed to get the head off.

In fact, I pull the exhaust, waste gate and J pipe before head removal. Its one less catch point when removing and installing. Lining up with the block and turbo is hard enough, without the J pipe being in the way too.

I can't seem to find the third one the manifold to turbo end. I only see the two I removed. I've pulled the J-pipe as well and still no luck.

EDIT: Just found it under the car, but I don't see any way to actually reach it without removing the turbo or what I think are hard oil feed lines, and that's counterproductive to what I'm trying to accomplish.

Stopped by and got 'er sorted last weekend, head is free and looks good. And replaced; can clearly see witness marks on two of the pistons from valves doing the tappy-tappy dance some years ago! But the head and valves all looked happy this time on removal. So some disassembly, cleaning, and inspection, and she should be ready to go back together in another month or so.

Added bonus, Karl's prodding and questions have helped motivate me to un-ass and deal with my Turbo; pulled the WUR out and will ship it off this week to Special T for rebuild swap... turns out he'd just finished rebuilding a WUR from a DeLorean with identical symptoms to mine: super-low (~7psi) cold control pressure, pig-rich engine running when it could be made to run at all... will be ready to drop it in and have her running soon after I get home from my next business trip... looking forward to that (along with more of this warm weather)...
