Sorted the fuel control via the WUR with a rpm controlled solenoid switch - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?p=382472#382472

Enjoying the car in the grounds of a Welsh castle

Swapped out the gearboxes in the past week. Pulled this Quaife LSD from my current box for checking over before going into a replacement gearbox along with fresh syncros.

It's nice to have a box in the car again with a useable first. What's not so nice is the lack of traction when one wheel spins up all too easily with the current open diff. Can't wait to get the LSD back in asap.

Seven years of ownership ticked off pre xmas. Had the removable badge panel off for a quick fettle and clean up to keep on top of maintenance. All's well after a leaky hose on the IC was nipped up.

Binned off the suede Momo and gearshift. Loving the Raid turbo wheel, leather gear gaiter and pure green Euro speedo. I need to get a spare mph dial white numbers coloured green asap. All feels more period 1980.

New years tasks are refit the Quaife LSD with fresh 1st & 2nd syncros in the currently fitted gearbox. A couple of paint issues to deal with. Get it on track more often than this past year. Maybe a turbo refresh with bigger compressor

Top right of main dials? Main beam light.

Nice work, the green dials are cool! But my cluster lighting isn't that good so visibility is horrible when it's dark outside, but cool goes first

I thought that lamp was for early cars only, my cars have it inside the cluster.

Hi Cedric

I bought a gearbox with the Quaife already installed so I have no experience of the shimming required. It has now been removed from this old box and will be installed into a new box in the coming couple of months. So will have some experience once its done

When I installed the geabox with the the Quaife I was running a little less power, circa 200 v's 225+bhp. So I was slightly disappointed to not notice any difference from the open diff. Only thing I noticed was when being a hooligan and drifting out of corners it appeared more controllable and more grip pushing the car forward as well as allowing some sideways slide.

Now running a little more power I have noticed a huge difference going back to the open diff more so. It is always spinning up a wheel on boost whether cornering or in a straight line. So cannot wait to get the LSD back in. It also lacks that punch forwards when it starts to spin a wheel in a drift.

The best part about the ATB diff is that it should less intrusive than the plate LSD's. I can say this is the case. Its also fit and forget v's the plates which need servicing. So this may be the reason in not noticing the LSD once installed, but noticing its loss when removed.

I hope that helps

Steve

.....Thanks

Quick update. On fueling, this thread and its links are worth noting - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=42373 . I think this mod was well worth the effort. Plugs are running far nicer colour being colder and more lean fueling on the most part. Still a touch rich over 4800rpm but don't spend too much time up there on the road.

Weekend chassis and tyre refresh. New Toyo R888R's fitted. With some homework I had hoped to fit 205 50 16 R888R's as the websites suggested the measurements were close. In reality the 205's were way bigger than the ZZR 195 50 16. Looked too big on the rim, rubbed the rear unless I removed the 20mm spacer, the front poked out too far. So I went to 195 50 16 R888R's, which are slightly smaller than the same 'size' ZZR.

Prefer the look of the ZZR over the R888R's. Has a rounder sidewall than the R888R's. Look shouldn't play a part but they will be similar performance I'm sure for what I need.

Interesting, seems to be similar to the old R888 then sizing wise. the old 205 15" R888 was close to 225mm wide in reality, the 205 15" pilot sport cups were closer to 205mm wide, which made a huge different with the fitting(I also like the more vintage non squared look ). The 205R888 wasnt at all a nice tyre, with the speed im doing they melted and got quite slimey with weak sidewalls, and wore down very quickly. The MPSC was way better. But I heard good stuff regarding the new Rs, will be interesting to hear how you like them after you tried them on track.

Messing around with a lamp pod! Work in progress......

Also looking at fitting a GTS spec 2670 compressor wheel. Here is it next to a Series 1 2470, which we know is not a great wheel. Can clearly be seen why here.....
