It is hanging down from under the dash and is on anytime the key is on.
It is a dash light style bulb and holder, but I can't find where it is supposed to go.
Anyone have an idea? Thanks! |

It is hanging down by the steering column. The lights do not need to be turned on, just have to have the key in the on position.
I'm not sure what would have to always be illuminated on the dash. |

Does the wire look original? is it white/blue? do you have a picture of it? _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Perhaps o2. But, where is that light on the dash supposed to be? |

Weird, I don't have a bulb in either that or the left one. Just a plastic cover |

The left one is blank not cut out. The right one should be a yellow transparent cap with oxs on it. Bulb would be behind the cap. _________________ '81 931 |

Nope, no lens. Did the 1980 have that light? |

Sounds like the backlight illumination for the headlight switch. That is one of the few dashboard lights that is always on when ignition is on.

Could be, as I've never seen my headlight switch illuminated |

I'm not sure what your light might go to without seeing it, but I wanted to chime in on the oxygen sensor. My 1980 has the oxygen sensor. It also has the "OXS" light on the right hole in the dash. Take a look at your catalytic converter. Is there an oxygen sensor plugged into it? Maybe it's a really early '80? Or it could be that someone swapped out your dash surround hence the hanging light? _________________ 1980 924 NA, US model

If you have an O2 sensor, you should have a light for it. There is a reset switch for the O2 sensor mileage. When the mechanism in it reaches 30,000 miles, the light comes on telling you to replace the O2 sensor. When you push the reset button, the light goes off. Somebody else will have to chime in on where the reset switch is located as I haven't needed to reset mine yet. I think it may be Unser the dash somewhere but don't quote me in that. I would pull out my Haynes manual and look but it's in my car in winter storage at the moment.
If the bulb wires trace back to the reset switch box, you've found your culprit. _________________ 1980 924 NA, US model

Thanks, I will look for it. I do have a new O2 sensor that I bought when it first got the car, so if the weather dries out I'll install it as well. |
