What are the recommended brand of lash caps for use with solid valve lifters ? I have stock 9mm valve stems. I understand that old Alfa Romeo ones fit. Are there other brands that fit, most seem to be 8mm and smaller or inch size? Could I use the .375 ones which are about .020" larger?

Yes, but standard valves are 9mm. Talked to machinist and were going to start with new longer valves, then see how accurately we can measure and maybe go with the Alfa ones as tho more expensive at about $6 ea from Centerline, the cost of multiple disassembly and reassembly of the head to shave the valve stem can easily overwhelm the initial cost. If going to US made will use either Comp Cam or Manley for 3/8" valve stem which are generally .080 thick some at .060 to .120. Alfa shims range from about .055 to .150 by .001 increment. The under size reground cam and solid lifters make our beginning gap with stock valves in the .180 to .200 range. That is all theoretical as we roughly measured the cam lobe base diameter then measured a solid lifter and stock one with unknown adjuster screw and did some rough math. We have a lot of measuring to do yet before buying anything!
