I have got my hands on a 931 bell house and want to do a transplant of a Audi 20v turbo or Audi 1,8T engine. But have I got the right bell house for this swap? I also got a spacerplate with the bell house that’s from a Audi 1,9/2.0 TDI engine that doesn’t really fit more than a couple of bolt holes (se pictures)
I have been searching for the bell house number but mine says 5R in the end and I can’t find anything on that number.

Hi,
There is only one 931 bellhousing and it has got a hydralic release bearing similar to 944. The spacers that fits are at least three with bolt patterna for I5, V6 and V8 but not gasoline I4. 034 motorsport has got an adapterplate, but I don´t know if it is applicable for this application.

I also called Porsche today and they gave me the information that the 2R, 5R and so on in the end of the number doesn’t matter. So guess I have the right part for my Audi 20v turbo/1,8T conversion. The space part I got is for the 1,9TDI that doesn’t really make sense but maybe some other engines have the same block pattern ore maybe you can build a turbo engine with the 1,9 TDI block. |

The inline five started as a diesel 1.6 I4 in VW Golf/Rabbit. It grew to a 2 liter fivecylinder and with larger bore, 2.1l, 2.2l and 2.3l. With the long stroke dieselcrank even 2.5l. But the I4 and I5 didn´t share the same boltpattern because the two different longtudinel and transverse engine/gearbox solutions. The 1.9TDI was intended both for VW and Audi but I am not familiar with the boltpattern except for the obvious adapter plate. There are several frankenengines out there with 1.6 short blocks and 1.9 heads though.
IIRC, 034 motorsport had an adapter for longtudinell mounting of the VR6. Don´t know if the 20V 1.8T share the second boltpattern. _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen
