BOOM !

Finally found time to install my new injectors and rebuilt fuel distributor. Took a good half hour of trying to start, turn up the fuel, trying to start, turn up the fuel until BLAMO she just started up and is purring away. Burning oil however out the tailpipe but I'm guessing that is from driving it 1200 miles with a massive over fuelling issue. Oh well, the new motor will be done in the spring so no biggie. I will put a permit on her tomorrow and go driving and if all seems well I will get proper insurance for her and have some fun !

So very, very happy right now

Me baby, me...

Finally managed to solve the issue I created when I had the turbocharger rebuilt and modified.
I kept the S1 #6 turbine but since my S1 compressor was shot, I used an S2 compressor and a custom billet compressor wheel. However I did not tighten the backplate to the middle part of the turbocharger and oil went trough, flooding the compressor and making it boost very little and laggy as hell...also big clouds of smoke until the engine cut out since too much oil was being burned.
Anyway, two days of work later, turbo off, inspected, cleaned, tightened and put back in the car.
The car drives amazingly, this billet compressor wheel is fantastic, it builds max boost quicker than the factory unit.
The output is very torquey pretty down low, a blast to drive.
Missed driving this car so much.

So who didn't tighten it? You or whoever you had rebuild and modify it?
Very fortunate it was jut tight enough not to wreck the compressor wheel or compressor side piston and rings, thrust bearing, and the backplate itself..

Anyway about the mods..
I don't recall 100% but isn't the euro s2 compressor the same as the us S1 compressor? If so I think that is a very practically sized turbo for the car if you aren't looking for boost beyond the practical limits of the stock CIS..

Do you have any experience with the same turbo with a stock wheel?
Do you have a map for the custom wheel? A link? Price?

Was it a straight drop into the OEM compressor? You didn't have to bore the comp housing? Right in the OEM housing with the BOV?

I think the best way to do a turbo up for a 931 would be with an OEM comp housing to keep the excellent recircing bov but modified a bit so it can be turned upside down like mine.. Love that BOV..

How do you like it VS your k27 on your red car? I'm thinking that your custom wheel'd turbo setup may be superior in performance up to about 1 bar at redline over the k27 monster.. More practical for those boost level, less lag, but yet perfectly capable..
What do you think, seat of the pants?
How is this engine set up? Stock intake and euro boost?

I didn't tighten it on purpose, I pre-assembled the turbo myself but the compressor wheel needed machining to fit. Its not a straight drop in.
I thought they will go trough the complete turbo and torque those screws but they didn't.

I'm not sure what you guys got in the US, but the ROW S1 compressor is the one with the big inlet and small outlet, and it came with the #6 turbine and the ROW S2 compressor is the one with the small inlet and big outlet and it came with the #4 turbine.

Perhaps you got the small turbines and the small S2 compressors in the S1 cars in the US as well as in the S2?

I dont have a map for the wheel, its a Chinese earth mover/truck turbo wheel, there are maps for the compressor housings but i dont know about the wheels. I dont have a link anymore as its not valid, i got it off ebay.
I searched for the sizes to match the ROW S2 compressor.

I do know how this (ROW S2) compressor feels like with a #4 turbine and the factory wheel...its not too bad, but it boosts lateish and drops off after 5000 RPM.
I had an original ROW S2 in 2007. It has a torque peak at 3500RPM that lasts until 4500 RPM.

I haven't driven the GT turbo 931 too much yet as the weather was crap and new years eve thing happened.
But from what I can tell until now, I like this turbo more since it has very little lag both RPM-wise and pedal response-wise.

However I cant directly compare as the 931 runs 0.67bar and has a lower CR and less advance while the other car runs 1bar has higher CR and uses the CGT DITC which makes up for the turbo lag quite a lot.

What I can say until now is that pedal response is better on the 931 with the smaller turbo but probably the K27 hybrid pushes more air. That car is seriously quick at high speeds in my opinion.

I think i'm going to dyno them both soon as a shop in town recently got a dyno.

Crashed it, badly. Surely not worth repairing the tub...its the red one
Two idiots overtook on a non overtake section, forced me to leave the road with two wheels, I spun as I was still breaking when left the road surface, held it for a couple of swings but ended up crashing head on with the incoming traffic.
Two people were injured but have left the hospital in a few hours.
I have taken absolutely no damage...well except the loss of the car, years of work, sweat and tears and about 30-35k which I spent with this car since I have it.RIP GTS wannabe

Are you serious dude ? That is such crap luck. Man, my heart goes out to you, that was a really, really nice car. Hope you are not too shook up about it.

I'm actually almost speechless which is a rarity...

Bad news, man. Sorry to hear it.

Glad you're OK (and that others weren't seriously hurt).

Idiots just popped out from behind a truck, I had just managed to throw the car to the right and since there was dirt on the side of the road it unbalanced the car immediatly, I managed to avoid them and other traffic but as the back end swung wide it needed two lanes and sadly there was someone on one of the lanes.
Guys in the car i stopped into are fine, I drove them to their other car so they can get home as they were not locals and just passing trough.
Nobody saw the two cars number plates that caused me to spin...hoping someone that was there has some footage and will send it out but slim chances. As a result I'll get my license suspended...3months but I can have a test and reduce it to 1month.

New shell is an idea but i dont feel like rebuilding right away.
I'm going to strip the car down and sort out the good stuff and get rid of the damaged stuff and if I find a good donor in the future i'll go for it.

Meanwhile the 931 is working great so I'm not 924less.

What a shock to hear, im glad you are ok after such a severe hit. Really sad a about the car after so much effort, its been around here for years, so feels really sad to see this happen.

How about insurance, will they pay you for the car?
