I sold my 81 924 right before I came to college, and now that it's gone I miss it's simplicity and the good times I had. I am looking to get into a 944 maybe and have seen an 88 with 61k for 2500... it's in Janesville Wisconsin and I want to know you guys thoughts. I know all about 924's but nothing much about 944...
What to look for?
What to stay away from?
Common issues/symptoms?
Is this a good buy?
Does anybody have a 81 924 to give away? _________________ 1981 924 - Alpine White, First car! LSD. - SOLD

That's a better question on the Pelican Forum. I have two 944's. One is a nice 1989 944 Turbo, spends more time in my garage. And a 1983 944, track car I bought from Paul here on the board. Both cars run perfect. However, if they don't, you have to be able to recognize why, and hope you can fix it yourself.
Clark's garage dot com something is the place to print out sheets of information from his 'garage manual', if something does need fixing.
Most of the problems are similar to 924 cars, the previous owners neglected them. Common complaints on both are no-start situations. Running rough, or, the car burnt to the ground (944 engine fuel lines not replaced), engine over-heating (944 open deck filled with crap, clean out when replacing the head gasket), cracked dashes, bad seats, etc.
Just like in a 924 setting, buy the best one you can afford. The '88 car for 2500 seems too cheap. Unless it's Granny get rid of Grand-Dad's car, well, I'd be suspicious. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Im power hungry. And I don't know if the 924 will quench there thirst. Plus I'm going to pick out and buy a car over christmas, I was just lamenting the loss of my ol 924 even tho it was crappy. I might still visit fourth Fridays tho, just to meet the guys. _________________ 1981 924 - Alpine White, First car! LSD. - SOLD
