|
|
Any one have a recommendation for a mechanic in the so cal area(san bernadino area) that would assemble my 80 924 turbo and install my carb kit? I purchased this car, with the understanding my friend would put it together for me(fell though, big time). Its such a nice car, the person I purchased it from rebuilt the entire thing, then left a bolt loose in an intake that got sucked straight into the piston. Engine is fixed, resleeved, but in pieces, along with pretty much everything else. No shops Ive spoken to want to touch it, its too old they say. I know when things are beyond my abilities and this definitely is. Any porsche gods got any help for my dumb self? I really dont want to part it out.
Ps. If this the the wrong forum or isnt allowed, I'm sorry, please dont ban me. |

Aww, thanks man
Turbo was shot due to the bolt. Its a special kit for it from redline. I was told it would replace it and possibly be better cause the fuel injection is a nightmare to adjust. I really dont know. Could be bullshit. $1500 down the shitter if it is. |

First, try to not waist anymore money on this project before you better understand what is going.
More to follow later... _________________ 1976 924 N/A ROW SOLD

Did the previous owner told you that it was resleeved? Because those engine don't have sleeves.
Is the cylinder head off the block? If yes, you should inspect the cylinder and piston. If not, you should take it off and carry on with the inspection.

You can not replace a turbo with carb kit. Well I guess you could, but chances you will be pretty disappointed with the results.
Those turbo engine are running lower compression ratio than normal aspirated engine. The carb kit you purchase is for a normal aspirated engine. Running a turbo engine without the turbo would make a be pretty slow/low performance car.
You should post some pictures of your car so we can provide you better/more specific advise. Picture needs to be host on photo site like Flickr. _________________ 1976 924 N/A ROW SOLD

I bought the carbs when I still had a mechanic.
Resleeved may have been the wrong word(i wasnt kidding when i said this stuff is a bit beyond me). bolt caused some scratching in the cyl, I paid a very talented engine builder to fix it, he bored it, then sleeved it. refinished the entire engine, painted it, put it in bags. I couldnt have him put it together because I couldn't find a replacement piston at the time. I wish he was still around, I'd have him finish it. I'll get some pictures when I head to my storage tomorrow. Thanks peeps. |

Not sure there are any Porsche 924 specialists in Victorville (when i was there it did not seem like it ), you will have to look towards LA.
Anyone from LA that knows any 924 specialists? There are bunch of 911 and 356 specialists (and also 944 Turbo, I know several) but do not know regarding 924's. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Seems like the people who worked on this car did some sloppy work. If you want to sell let me know. |
