I have a S2 931 that I have installed a rebuilt S1 turbocharger on. I have continually chased hot running problems that initially were fuel related due to dirty fuel infrastructure which I have hopefully addressed. In the Porsche FSM it says that the different chargers are not interchangeable. Is this true.

Yes. I have checked wur,Aav,fuel distributor, changed fuel pump and filter, cleaned fuel tank, all vacuum lines are good. It starts cold beautifully, idles strong, runs good until I drive for a while then it starts to starve out, with slight backfire, at which time it seems to almost overheat and die. After throughly cooling will go through the same process. I don't remember having this problem with the Original s2 turbo except when the fuel filter clogged which is clear now. I changed turbos because of an oil leak in the original and I got an s1 turbo that looked to be in better shape whichI had rebuilt. _________________ Frank Wood

Your problem is probably not the turbo.
They are interchangeable, meaning they will bolt on and the car will run fine. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Agreed. First thing I would try is replacing the ignition module on the inner fender well. There have been a few recent reports of these causing symptoms like what you're describing when the heat sink glue dries up and disintegrates. These can be gotten new for very reasonable cost. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Many frankenturbo’s out there and the owners are none the wiser. PRevious owners and garages have been mixing them up for nearly 40 years _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Thanks for those replies. I will try the ignition module. This is one of the best forums with absolutely priceless help.
