Yes, you should come for a visit. It's is absolutely lovely here. And full of exotic sports cars. (Mostly driven by 16 year old Chinese students..)

Just going to pick up the last shipment of bits for Olive tonight, then a few more days of swapping parts and cleaning up the electrical and she should be good to go !

I have been busting my butt to get this car all buttoned up for some serious fall driving. So far the car is about 95% mechanically done. As well as replacing every brake line and clutch lines I have also ordered new fuel lines from Sunset as well as a few that are NLA from Porsche but re-made by Werk924. DHL tells me they will be at my house when I get home from work today.

The entire vacuum system has been replaced with new hose and elbows from Porsche. New coil is in the mail from the UK. (only place I could find one..) New starter / charging wire harness. New starter. New exhaust with flex coupler. New j-pipe with flex coupler. Added an air / oil separator and the necessary lines for it, the air filter was soaked with oil from running the breater directly into the filter box. (It's funny but this is the only '79 I have ever had and the differences between it and the '80-'82 cars is quite noticeable with things like that.) My 7" & 8" 951 Fuchs should be back from paint either this week or next. I am having them painted the same colour as the upper part of the car. Going to look nice.

What else...um...all new brake calipers and rotors in the rear. New parking brake cables from Porsche. All new grounds around the car. Four new CV joints and freshly stripped / painted half-shafts. New Bilsteins in the rear. New brake flex lines.

Yesterday I got a surprise free day so I installed a NOS relay / fuse panel. (My last NOS relay / fuse box actually so I hunted up another from a guy in Western Switzerland to keep on hand as a spare.) Installed a NOS wiper arm assembly and a new manufactured Meyle turn signal arm assembly. As a brief note, some of the turn signal arms, even though they have the Porsche part number, require 'fitting' to install. I spent about 3 hours fiddle-f*cking around with a Dremel to remove little pieces of plastic that did not *quite* let it fit. It was a mental excercise in the kids game of 'spot-the-differences' ,lol. That's about it for now I think. Once the coil shows in the mail I will install that and take her for a spin.

No I didn't F it up. I had the old and new side by side and there were clearly noticeable differences in the plastic where it mates to the 4 prongs in the steering column. Everything else fit fin, wires are all in the right spots.

Cars gonna be at least a $10K car when she's done.

Came home to an early Christmas, both of my parcels from Europe arrived the same day. Got my new coil from Deign911 in the UK as well as the newly made fuel lines from Thomas at Werk924. Both companies were excellent to deal with, I would deal with them again without hesitation.

After work today I will install the coil, put in her battery and do the intitial checks for magic blue smoke from the electrical system. Then *hopefully start her up and bleed the coolant system. If that all goes well then we will be putting a day permit on her tomorrow and going for a spin around town ! Dope !

So I sorted the wiring yesterday, got her running. Found out my bag of 931 fuel pump relays are all dead. Shitty. She runs like a watch with a jumpered relay though, yay. Vacuumed the inside and will give her a good wash this weekend. Still need to torque the rear hub nuts and put new cotter pins in. And tighten the CV bolts once the car is on the ground. Then it's just a matter of sorting out the little niggly bits as I drive it around. Can't wait to get my Fuchs back from paint ! She gonna be way two sexy.

Got an expected call today from the wheel re-finishing shop. Olive's Fuchs are now painted to match the Dolomite Grey of her upper stripes :

This makes up for the leaking rear fuel line. Luckily I had received the replacement from Werk924 (which was just supposed to be a spare) one day before !

The old fuel feed line from the accumulator that I had to cut with a Dremel zip-cut disc then pop open with a screwdriver :

The new from Thomas in Germany :

She's coming along slowly.

Yeah. Forgive me for being an enabler... Just tryin to help, you know? ;^) Plus, I have to live vicariously through folks like you because right now I'm poor as a church mouse whose wife has just run off with another mouse, taking all the cheese. (To quote BlackAdder.)

Had a pretty good week working on Olive. Got a ton of little things out of the way as well as a care package from my man in The Netherlands. A mint condition ,period correct adjustable cam gear and a set of 944 Cup manual plastic mirrors. Sooo nice to get those really special little bits coming together.

Just need to sort out the idle issue and I will be able to finally drive her around a bit before winter sets in. Tomorrow I will pull the injectors and test them for flow etc., this is getting a bit frustrating... ah well. Next up is to send the massive pile of NOS rare and exotic goodies out to get built up into a brand new, better than factory motor for this little gem of a car.

Toodles,
Leah
