|
|
I have a motec m400 that I'll be using for my track car project. I don't have a loom for it just yet so I cannot test it if this will work. But obviously I need to tell the motec the position of the engine and that's done with a crank sensor..
I saw somewhere on this forum that someone used the original distributor and locked the internals and use that to give the signal to the ecu for crank position.
I'm not sure with the proper terms, but will this be possible?
Other options will be a 36-1 trigger wheel. But I want to know if using the dizzy is a viable option with a motec.
Thanks. _________________ 924 - Race car project in the works.

Definitely doable, no worries.
Have used locked mechanical dizzy with programmable ignition and megasquirt sucessfully before going toothed wheel CNP. Dizzy was then used by another board member with his MSD.

Ive posted dizzy info and pictures on here somewhere previously. The resolution is not as good as with a toothed wheel, only 180* per 720* engine cycle but M400 has a good fast processor and confugurable signal input trigger. Easiest way to get the system up and running, then can progress to toothed wheel later. _________________ World`s quickest 924 2L slushbox

I've seen that thread previously.
That's what i was planning on doing. use the dizzy first. get it running. get some ignition maps and fuel maps in. then slowly perfect the system.
Where in Aus are you? Also do you mind sharing some ignition & fuel maps?
Thanks! _________________ 924 - Race car project in the works.

Yes, thats how I set up MS, first NA then with SC then keep on developing and more boost, 911 style.
I`m in Adelaide. Happy to share maps, have some from different stages, good starting point anyway.
Is your car NA or turbo? _________________ World`s quickest 924 2L slushbox

Ah, from Melbourne. My 951 came from Adelaide though.
NA at the moment. turbo in the future. This will actually be going onto a road going car then once it's perfected and the track car build is done, i'll be transferring the motec to that engine which will be boosted but keeping the stock compression ratio. _________________ 924 - Race car project in the works.

Yep. Photobucket just killed a lot of forums. I need to find a new host.
I haven't gotten much further with the track car yet. Just a lot of sanding and cutting.
PM me your email address, i'll send you an email _________________ 924 - Race car project in the works.

You cannot use just the distributor unless you plan to keep the distributor for spark because ECU needs to know if the crank is TDC for cyl1+4 or 2+3, without missing tooth it does not know and therefore you need distributor that physically distributes spark.
If you are going to use direct ignition then you need missin tooth wheel.
I suggest do it right, it is quite easy to put 36-1 or similar to crank pulley (to the inside of the alternator belt pulley). _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Trigger wheel:

I now also have a bracket for a threaded body style VR sensor. Need to get pix and pricing up on the site, but PM me for details. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Yeah i know you've got the wheel, didn't know you had a bracket, and i'll be ordering them on a few week I'll email you when it's time.
