I replaced the timing belt and water pump on a 1988 944 a few years back and followed a very detailed Youtube video that provided step-by-step instructions. Does anyone know if this process is the same for a 1982 924 Turbo? If not, are there any good videos or instructions for the timing belt replacement?

They are entirely different. The '82 version is dirt simple. Get a Haynes manual.

I found replacing the timing belt to be quite easy. I found getting the timing belt cover off so I could replace the belt to be quite challenging (i.e. I would rather do a 944). This forum was quite helpful. One key to allowing access to get the cover off was to unbolt the fuel distributor/metering unit assembly from its mount and disconnect the boot going to the turbo, leaving the lines all connected. This allows it to be moved far enough out of the way to just barely get the timing belt cover off.
