No rear wheel bearings while that was all apart?

And FYI, the grease goes on the outside of the throwout guide tube.

Ooops... hopefully some sloppiness made it to the outside.

Yeah, probably should have replaced all the wheel bearings but I'll wait for noise and vibration.

Finished the body disassembly and paint prep on Saturday, purchased single stage polyurethane and supplies. I was able to keep garage temps in the mid-60's but application didn't go that well. Anyway... I'll be doing a lot of wet sanding for the next few weeks. Did I say how much I dislike paint and body?

Thanks for the encouragement Dan. I've got some serious orange peel to deal with but with a ton of sanding - it's fixable.

It's been a long couple of weeks painting, sanding, buffing and repeat. The first two pints of single stage poly went on with a lot of orange peel and some major drips. That was five coats. I let that cure for several days and the wet sanded with 600 grit first, then 1000 grit and then buffed with an aggressive compound. I burned through in a few spots (along some edges and one dimple). So this weekend I got another pint, shot those areas and "fogged" the rest of the car several times. That seemed to lay down better but still orange peel. So I wet sanded again with 1500 grit and buffed with a less aggressive compound. There's still some orange peel but I'm beat up. This will do for now as a race car. Call it a matte finish. At least it's all one color

Thanks Eddie. Can't wait to get those Bogart wheels with Hoosier A7s on it. We've got an SCCA Solo in south Georgia next month and it's going to be a blast!

So how is it that I haven't run into you yet... I'm doing a full-blown 924T OEM restoration just down the highway from you. Crazy.

If you have fasteners for a 924 console, we should talk!

Nice work.

PostPosted: Fri Feb 24, 2017 4:22 am    Post subject: Corner balance and alignment Reply with quote

Monday was a day off and I got the car corner balanced and aligned. Looks like the weight ratio is still very good. We lifted the left rear just a touch and landed at 51.77% front, 48.37% rear (with 200 lbs. of driver ballast). That put overall weight at 2208 lbs. without driver. Outstanding! With that 2.7L engine my minimum FP weight is 2016 lbs. so I can still loose about 200 lbs. Loosing door window regulators, lexan side windows and hatch should do that.

The alignment was troublesome as the sensor heads wouldn't grab the rim on those Bogart wheels so I had to run back to the house and get the wheels off the 931. Front toe was a mess because I'd changed out the steering rack and tie rod ends. And the rear toe gave us problems with frozen bolts but I settled with -1% camber front and rear. I went conservative so as not get those race wheels into the struts. We'll see how that goes on the first couple of events and maybe make changes later.

If you're running race tires you'll need more camber.

Yeah, if you look at the vendor website, they'll usually specify how much camber the tires want.

In fact, if I'm recalling correctly -1° is less than even factory spec.
