Update: talked to John on Monday 19 May, and the turbine housing, j-pipe, and exhaust mani are on their way to the coaters (black ceramic). Rest of turbo is assembled, and awaiting the other bits to be completed. Should have it before the end of the month

Regarding the water-cooled bearing housing, see related thread.

What temp coating did you get? Are you adding a flex joint to the j-pipe?

Methinks I'm doing mine in red!

Didn't think to ask but I suspect that John knows what to specify since he does LOTS of turbos.

Rasta Monsta wrote:

I wanted to, but just ran out of time and immediate funds. Didn't want to delay this part of the project yet again, so I'm going to go with the stock setup for now. If I get my hands on another j-pipe between now and when the engine goes in the car, that will definitely still be on my wish list.

John's supplier only offered black or silver. I've read complaints elsewhere that the silver has a tendency to "cloud" up, and anyway, since these components will all be difficult to see once in the car, black was fine with me.

Heh, leaving for vacation today, plus I spend all my time on the 'puter / 'net unless I'm on a plane or in front of an audience, so it's easy to "multi-task" and still be productive

But of course you mean ceramic coated, not powder coated.

Very anxious to see what you do with the water supply. It is freakin hot where that inlet is. . .you'll need to find a way to shield the bearing housing and H20 inlet fitting.

Do you have the measurements for the K27 compressor wheel? Looking for inducer and exducer diameters.

No, I don't have the measurements. I have reason to call John on some other business, so I will ask him again for the part number to the compressor wheel he installed to see if it sheds any light.

Ok, the reason why I ask you is that my own hybrid K27/K26 got a 3064 compressor wheel and I would like to compare it with yours.

I am only aiming for 250 hp @ 15 psi and is curious if it is too large. It got the same inducer dimater as Porsche 944 S but much larger exducer for high boost applications. According to my calculations is max power just in the efficency sweetspot @ 75%.

I'm a little squeamish about tearing open the turbo...don't know if this will help or not, but I finally got the part number from Majestic today: 5327 123 2314

It is the same compressor wheel used in the 964 / 930 (3.3L turbo producing 320HP in stock form).

Yes, that's right...
So, even as high as 21 psi of boost, I'll still be well within the 75% efficiency range of the compressor (21 psi of boost calculates to a pressure ratio of 2.43, and a flow requirement of .255 m^3/sec). I'm hoping to be a bit lower on the boost range, more like <17 psi (PR of 2.16 and flow of .227 m^3/sec), which puts me right in the sweet spot of this compressor (77% efficiency), with plenty of headroom.

Doing some research..

The k27 7200 is the OEM turbo used on the 964 911 turbo, it is also the turbo that is the "upgrade" version for all previous 911 turbo's, and the compressor of choice for the 951 guys..

That K27 is what your compressor wheel is from.. They (the wheel) are pretty readily available for like $70 and can be had in a few billet varieties for further upgrading..

You can buy the whole k27 7200 from borg warner brand new for $1300+ depending on where you get it, and the wheels, and backplate, but I haven't found just the compressor housing..

It seems the hard part of that compressor to come by is the compressor housing, which makes a lot of sense you having your housing bored to accommodate the 7200 compressor..

They are known as "the 7200" and to be pretty much the best big boost kkk turbos available.. Good wheel choice and you should have some billet aftermarket options to fit that too.. 5327-970-7200
