1. DIY
2. Rotary f*&#ing valves
3. DIY
4. It runs
5. Did I mention DIY?
6. I don't recall ever seeing an example of a running rotary valve engine, much less one that is full functional in a real car.
Since you didn't bother reading the article, I won't dignify the mosquito fogger remark with further comment. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Very interesting. Certainly quite some effort went into that thing.
He seems to use carbs and carb plates as valves.
Ingenious but I cant help to think what if a cam could serve as valves as well if it had different lobes that would eccentrically open and close a gap between them and the cyl head. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Back in the early 2000s there was a company called Coates that did experiments with rotary valves. The prototype was a Ford 302 it revved to around 10000 RPM! I'm not sure what happened with it. I haven't heard about them in ages. |

I am with Dan here and I will summarize "DIY and Done". No matter the reason he tried something and actually did it. This is crazy awesome. I am imagining what he would do with a second attempt

Sorry, sarcasm doesn't translate well over the Web sometimes.
How's this:

[smartass=on]I suppose that depends where you live [smartass=off]
And the obligatory emoji to signify "don't take me too seriously"

Millions of "DIY" inventions made the world what it is today and its all awesome. I cant imagine all the crazy attempts at engines that are lost to time or buried in files at the patent office. Yeah this guy is cool. Dan needs to learn to take a ribbing. Its not the right time of year to fog mosquitos anyway. _________________ 87 924s

Thanks for sharing Dan, I have learnt something new today
Awesome that he got it working I think he still has some timing issues to sort out on his setup but it is a very interesting take on valves.
The Ford motor sounds great though. I seems like they managed to get it working quite well.
Two stroke motors don't have valves either, so this should be a viable solution. Which makes me wonder why this has not taken off yet. The only reason I can come up with is that the complexity outweighs the benefit?
Very interesting video clips on youtube

From these videos you can see that the DIY project took a different approach. the Coates system is much simpler. |

Or go the Koeniggsegg way of camless valves. Seek out the video on youtube. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife
