|
|
Hello,
I just towed my 1982 Porsche 924 Turbo home today. It needs some work so I will posting some questions here over the next few weeks. The engine turns over but it will need a radiator. My question is, will a radiator from a NA (non turbo) car fit my 931?
Thanks,
Bryan

Radiators are the same, I believe. If you get a used one, make sure it's serviced at the rad shop before use. Also, if you don't know timing belt history, don't crank it any more.
Fwiw, Ron Davis Racing has a nice albeit expensive aluminum replacement. I might consider it in the desert...it is a very nice unit.
Also, beware the non factory replacement found at some vendors...garbage. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Yes, 924 NA radiator is the same as 931. It is vitally important on the 931 that you have the dual fan shroud, and that the fan system is working correctly.
I can also heartily recommend converting over to the slightly better, lighter, and slimmer profile 944 radiator setup, including eliminating the 931 expansion tank in favor of the fender mounted 944 unit. New rads for the 924/931 are increasingly difficult to find, while the 944 stuff is relatively inexpensive and plentiful.
Here is a writeup:

Here is a link to the parts required to do the 944 expansion tank:

Thanks for the info. Do you know if there are any good YouTube videos or manuals that cover the Timing Belt/Water Pump replacement? I did this job on a 1988 944 but I don't know if it's the same for a 1982 924 Turbo.
Thanks,

Timing belt procedure is much simpler on 2.0L.
Same for water pump and bleeding. Do you have a Haynes Manual? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Fwiw I put a scirocco expansion tank on my car. Much, much higher quality than the Porsche unit and less than $20. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I have an extra one. Since the only thing still 924 in my car is the suspension the book doesn't much apply to my car. |

That is brilliant. I'll have to look into that when the used 944 unit I bought goes south. |
