Holy moly thats a lot of surfaces. But you cant get the inner surfaces so what good is it to get the outside ones?
Its really interesting but what can you build using these surfaces?

I made a brace about 7-8 years ago when i installed the turbo engine in the NA tub (my red GTS wannabe) I made a much smaller brace, made of 4-5mm thick aluminium. I installed the brace on the inside of the cabin and i didnt have to dismantle anything.
It still works well today. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

morghen, you are correct, I don't get the inner sections that well. All the entrances show up but obviously deep inside does not. If the surface would have prepped I would have gotten slightly deeper. There are other ways but there might be enough to build on already
I had to make the file smaller to work with it for sure. There are a few idea's floating around in my head (double wall, divided runner, advanced material, exchangeable turbo mount section) but I am trying not to lose focus or divide myself too much playing with this thing...Even though I am playing around with it a bit. _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

I am not sure machining is the best process for a manifold if you plan to keep the same shape. I contacted a casting house here in Van about 10 years ago about making new manifolds and took a sample to show them. They said it was an easy shape to do and quoted $5,000 for the molds then $2/pound to do the castings in Inconel 625. They would need a sacrificial unit to cut and get the interior profile correct but thats fine.
Biggest problem is getting 10-15 people to cough up $500 each to get it done.

You hit the material choice on the head (Inconel625) but I was thinking 3d printing not casting. Its the only way for a true double wall construction. I plan on talking to some companies this next week in Chicago. There is a big show here every two years so you get a lot of suppliers in one place. For the moment this is all just talk. 2 years ago I was already thinking down these lines and very casually pricing printers back then. This time I will be asking all the right questions from feasibility, to machine pricing, or providing the service. I am there a bunch throughout the week anyway so why not ask.
Now, if I were to machine something it would be a hybrid approach between stainless 321 coupled to stainless tubing but it loses the stock appearance at that point. There are people out there machining billet 321 wastegate to merge setups because of limited space requirements. The whole deal seems like a nightmare to machine. Maybe two or three halfs welded together. Thought of that to but that still doesn't get me that double wall unless I design in lips and grooves that fit to each other. _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

But whats the purpose? retaining the factory look?
I mean for very little money, one could just build a log manifold..or even a 4 runner manifold that keeps the turbo in the same position. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Yes the factory look I guess but lighter hopefully. Agreed you can just make a header to stock location
For now its just an "exercise" but it does give me the locations even though a simple fixture would suffice for a header _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

I took my 924 to Omaha for the all euro show, met the guy who had this one owner '82 all original in this rare shade of blue I don't think I have ever seen before.
I think he said about 60k miles on the car, not perfect, but about as nicely preserved as you would be likely to see. _________________ 88 924S

Went to a pretty awesome luxury car show yesterday. Saw a few rides I have never seen driving around here. This Chiron was absolutely stunning with the sunshine going through the carbon fiber :
There was also a Pagani Huayra that was open. You could sit in it and pretend to be rich :
Luckily we splurged for the VIP area with complimentary food and drinks. Had a few on The Donald :
All in all a great day out enjoying CARS !

The drivers seat in my '88 was starting to split so I reupholstered it using a a seat from my parts car. I also reinforced the seams to keep this one from splitting.

Got some pics of the new '80 931 I picked up from Craigslist in Edmonton for $1200. Sucker smokes when idleling but otherwise is in really good shape. No LSD unfortunately, damn. Ah well,
One of the only cars I have bought where the PO didn't yank the hood badge ! Woo-Hoo ! Driving up there this weekend with another 'Board member to strip the bits I want off it then the shell will be off to Cowtown for a race car build. Sweet.
Also had a chance to finally take in a huge bucket with 3 cars worth of assorted hardware to get plated...
I just love shiny things. Stuff looks better than new..

Cash deal ,$100 for about 80 lbs. of assorted stuff. Not just nuts and bolts but little brackets too and all of the proprietary things on the 931. I had done the prep work though, degreasing it and glass beading everything so they got it ready to dip. It is gorgeous now, just need to sort it out by size and type and then onto the car and into bins for later use.
