trying to put car back together after a fuel line replacement project. have one stray wire (could it always have been stray?)
its not the ICV, not the wire to the bottom of the throttle. i didn't notice it when i took everything off. am totally stuck until i figure this out. have spent like 3 hours peering in looking for some sign of life, but cannot for the life of me figure this out. any help would be epic.

Yes, the '87 924S has one unused plug. The early 944 ran Motronic 1.2 which used an Auxiliary Air Valve (AAV). The 924S runs Motronic 3.1 without an AAV but uses the early harness, so this plug was ziptied back out of the way from the factory. It cannot control an AAV since one of the wires just runs under the dash and connects to nothing...
That said, on the '88 models, that plug was re-purposed to control an electronic valve on the back of the intake...
I hope that helps! _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

Yep. The factory just had it ziptied to the main part of the harness where it wouldn't get in the way. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

Ed you are the man by the way. super cool about the 951 swap. thats unbelievable.
got a couple reassembly questions
as far as that wire bundle, with the wires to the AFM and this unused wire - should I look to further heat shield it or try to clip it up and away from the motor and away from the intake manifold? as it is now, its shielded a little but seems like it would still make some contact with the motor.
Also, I am not really seeing how I should remount the ICV - does it just kind of float somewhere? how is it held in place? I have a bit of heat shielding I got from arnworx I was going to use on my new fuel lines. are there any other steps I can do to make sure everything is in the right place.
also, as far as vacuum hoses, any tips to making sure I am doing it right or to check for as I am reassembling?
thanks so much. was a huge relief to find out about that stray wire even if I had literally wasted hours feeling around for where it should go. _________________ '87 924S black/black |

A lot of people leave it dangling. The Ziptie often crumbles leaving the plug hanging for decades and it doesn't hurt anything. So I wouldn't worry about it. You can attach it anywhere you like or just leave it.
As far as heat shielding is concerned, these naturally aspirated cars don't really get hot enough to damage the wiring. The turbos on the otherhand...
The vacuum hoses are pretty simple. Off the top of my head, the first intake port connects to the V topped temp valve (G) near the back of the head. The other half of the V temp valve(G) runs to the shut-off valve (H).
The second intake port runs to a 'Y' splitter. One goes to the fuel pressure regulator and damper, while the other runs to the rear of the shut-off valve (H).
Heres a link to a diagram: http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-13.htm
I also thought I would note, that if any of your vaccum lines have been replaced with solid rubber lines, you can buy replacement hard plastic ones at any autoparts store if you want the OEM look!
The ISV mounts to the block between cylinders two and three. Here's a recent picture of when I had my '88 apart. Here's that thread if you want more pictures or tips: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=41991

I'm always amazed how people can be so cheap about something as critical as a head gasket. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I was just looking at your rennlist thread and noticed why you can't seem to mount your ISV. I can clearly see that the mounts are torn.
This is what they should look like:
Last time I looked they were no longer available but I have used short M6 bolts with a vacuum hose between the mount and ISV. This added the needed cushioning and works about as well as the real mounts.
I hope that helps! _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

The rubber mounts are available at pelican. I just bought 2 for my car. About $10.50 for a pair of them. _________________ 87 924S |
