Hello,
Just wanted to say Hi.
I just bought my first Porsche about a month ago. It is a RHD 1985 924 imported from GB.

The car has a, somewhat, interesting story.

From what I am told.... a collector owned it for several years, including 9 years in which it was in storage. During the other years, it was 1 of 3 Porsches owned by this collector. It was stored every winter. This collector is growing older and feeling pressures from the wife, and let this one go.

He sold it to a woman in GB. She is married to an American.
They had the car shipped to the US and gave it to his father as a gift.
He was afraid to drive it and it essentially sat since May of 2015 when it entered the county.

The vehicle had been registered but the US plates hadn't even been put on. I am glad it had already been registered stateside, as it made Ohio registration a breeze. except for actually mounting the plate; more on that later.

I found the vehicle on Craigslist and also a few other sites. I traveled to Wisconsin (about a 5 hour drive) to see the car. I drove it home.

The vehicle included a folder of paperwork that included the original Manual with the service records (oil changes etc,) back to 1985.
It was great as I could see the mileage progress from year to year and during last 20 years it only averaged about 1-2 thousand miles a year. I could also verify the 9 years of storage.

The vehicle is in great shape overall. It appears to have been repainted. Just about everything works.
I like the European bumpers, and the washer sprayers for the headlights. Not sure if the US ones have that or not...

The car gets looks wherever i go. Just on the trip home, i noticed 2 separate people video taping me driving (Right Hand Drive) kind of cool.

I haven't driven it much this month, as the weather has been cold. It is just now warming up so I hope to have it out more.

Back to the license plate. This is something that seems simple but is proving to be a slight pain. I assumed i'd just pop the UK plate off and pop mine on, right? Wrong. The holes don't line up no big deal. But what's worse? the US plate doesn't fit in the space. It rubs on the top and bottom. It will need a spacer or something to put it out far enough. I ordered a cheap license plate bracket on Amazon and it didn't work for the purpose; it would have the plate look like it is hanging too low and over the word Porsche across the back.
I have another one on order now and it should be here tomorrow.

Nice looking car, shame we are now losing our cars to the USA

First registered 10th May 1985, makes it one of the last 2 litre models made and will be unusual in the States as they ceased to be imported in 1982. Will also benefit from being non emission controlled 125BHP compared to the smog controlled US spec cars. Not sure if that will present you with problems over there?

I am about to find out... The muffler needs to be replaced.. Yes on the 1982 thing.. I have found that when looking for parts I always have to say it's an '82

Where did you get 10 May 1985? From the plate? I have been trying to learn more about the vehicle's history.... I have a couple of names from the owners manual,... Even an address, but no one has contacted me back.

In the UK you can access the government licencing websites to obtain registration details and the MOT (annual roadworthiness test) historic information by using the licence plate information and vehicle make

https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

It may pay to post some details on here https://porsche924.co.uk/ where it is possibly known, although I am a regular user and don't recognise it.

You can also request the names/addresses of previous owners using this form and paying a small fee, not sure if this will work from the US.

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/436690/V888_200315.pdf

It will pay you to get a Haynes manual for the 924 from the UK, the US version runs up to 82, but there are addendums in the version sold in the UK to continue it up to 1985. There were quite a few changes in the later versions not seen in the US.

I wanted to thank you for the heads up. I went to that website. I looked in the gallery... Members cars section . I found a picture of my car. From there I was able to find the user name of the previous owner. I was able to read all his old posts about the vehicle. I have attempted to make contact with him but have not heard back yet

I wonder if the rear shoes have self-adjusters.

Yes they did fit it to Swedish 924s, since it was mandatory here. Most 924s here were imported from Germany in the eighties so its quite rare among 924s here aswell..

I'll be darned, looks like they did. See PET 603-00. . .if the bits are still available, might make for an interesting upgrade!
