|
After all the pain at the hands of the 'kid' previous owner whose only priority was a stereo and an aftermarket steering wheel which caused under dash wire loom fire meltdown(s)....she gets some TLC
Engine seems to run decent with its AMC cam and tappets (didn't want to waste one of my good cam/tappet sets on a maybe).
The previous cam looked like a roller cam with nicely rounded off lobes...worst 924 cam I ever saw.
The rest will need some help but she drives _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

need to upload more. It isn't as nice as it seems. The previous owner threw on some other fenders and did a quick paint job with 930 silver as far as I can tell. I say it waves at you when it drives by. In other words I can't wait to paint it properly. The one thing that is nice though, is that it must have sat somewhere for a long time before the "kid" got it. It's actually pretty decent underneath. I like that its another one in better hands.
Also, props to my nephew for helping out with the alignment
I forgot to add that this is the first "balanced" cam assembly that is in a running engine. Of course I have nothing to compare it to (its been too long since I drove any of the cars). I have a picture of the first balanced cam in the 80 NA that I can post. This one we attempted to anticipate how the cam gear was machined to leave mass in the right place. Still didn't get it quite right and had to drill a bit more out once it was on the balancing machine. This car still has a distributor so its balanced with it still in place. On the 80NA we made an additional weight which was then pressed on in place of the distributor gear so we didn't have to remove so much weight elsewhere.
I'll post a pic later today of the 80NA, which is a separate update in itself. Got to dig up the thread I started. _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

I posted these before when the car was purchased/rescued so many years ago. Need to look up the date but sadly I think its 5 years ago
The driver seat is out and being restored. Hope to have pics of it soon. Been dumping "soffener" on it before fixing the bolster and finish. _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

Look at this picture. Specifically the first two lobes on the right hand side. See the two holes in the lobe drill out for balancing. I guess this could qualify for the 924 Innovation thread
(Pic is of the 80NA head but similar. Also, posted previously)

I am working on that with Dan. Not sure yet but obviously there is plenty of time given the weather around here and, in particular, the salt on the roads.
Car is going up on the lift for a few other things including the billet aluminum turbo mount. _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

You might check my IC thread. I'm very happy with the pump location, and have switched to a half size custom rad. Pump draws cold water from the radiator output, and is not exposed to engine bay heat. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Ok, I did my due diligence but to no avail...Do you have a link? I just tried searching but I am obviously using the wrong search words
