Long story short, I had plug #1 pulled and forgot I had it out and after finishing my timing job, dropped a *stainless steel* nut inside while putting my valve cover on...

Fast forward a little bit and I have my intake off just to find it is cracked and broken on cylinder #4. I have been finding missing bolts and half assed stuff all over this car and I'm honestly not even surprised...

I guess I am wondering if anyone else has had this? And also wondering if you guys could tell me what this wire is that sits underneath the intake and goes through the firewall.

There is supposed to be a brace to support the intake.

That wire is for the heater control valve.

Not sure where exactly that brace is supposed to be, right on the inside of where the plate with the dipstick mounts to the block?

Doesn't look like I have it.

Number 12 I believe, around the dipstick as you mentioned.

Thanks for the picture, my Haynes is shot with tons of pages missing...

Yeah I do have that brace, it's actually what I was talking about above. PO had it on there but only the bolt to the block, it wasn't mounted to the intake.

Hopefully I can get this intake welded.

Throw it away and upgrade to a late (81-82) setup.

Is this the silver 931 that was for sale up in Buffalo about a year ago?

That manifold is pretty beat... pm me if you decide to replace it. I have an '80, and a friend has and '82 manifold.

KNZ, Yeah this is the one, bought it and haven't had the time or money to really mess with it until recently. Is it something you had looked at at one point?

Yeah I for sure will keep you in mind on that, just getting caught up financially to where I can get this project going. Do you have an idea on what you would want for either?

I saw this one on the list, and was really tempted to make the drive to see it. I never did go up, and actually found my car only an hour north of me.
