I think I paid $3200 for my car about 5 years ago. It needed work but was driveable. I don't think it look as good as the OP's car.
Boxsters are looking more and more attractive to me. (pricewise anyways)
I probably have about a million dollars into my car by now so something like this is seems reasonable for what you get.

But at a certain price point, it becomes a bit like the toofah... it's only a few grand, who cares if it blows up?! Just buy it, put no money into it, and thrash it to death. |
Been there, done that.
About four years ago I co-purchased a '99 base Boxster with 175,000 miles and a couple of dents. $6700 (you could get the same car today for $5000). Purposed just for autocross, we refreshed the brakes, put in a L&N IMS, light weight flywheel, sports clutch, short shifter, used performance exhaust, extended roll bar, dual adjustable coil-overs, used racing seats and harnesses. Probably $10K in improvements spread over two years and shared cost. It is a super fun car. Very quick and handles extremely well. We competed regionally against one another and had a blast. So four years of a lot of fun with an over-all cost of approx. $8350 each. That's just over $2000 a year. Add entry fees and fuel, divide by 12 events per year and we were probably averaging about $225 per event. But once you get past the build stages, it's really very inexpensive.
OBTW - that Boxster is now for sale for $8000. PM me if your interested. _________________ -----HAIRY ANT NEST RACING-----

Ive only driven the 986 out of the boxsters, its a pretty dull car to drive. Feels like it needs lot of work to get even near my 931 when it comes to driving fun. But they are cheap, that means more money left for upgrades _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

The lightweight flywheel makes a Boxster come alive. But you could probably say the same for 924/944. _________________ -----HAIRY ANT NEST RACING-----

Yeah, nice example, been watching that for a couple weeks now. But the hood isn't original paint: "The hood is a matte black with the factory turbo scoop". Which is too bad, because that is a lovely color. Creampuff for sure, if the story about gramps is true. Not too far from the shop in Plymouth either...! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
