|
|
Hi all!
during this month i can hear a fuel pump noise that comes from the rear of the car... and the car won't run well... the idle is poor and it is impossible to reach the max speed... around 220 km/h
the car is a 931 1980 completely standard
the noise is increasing in time, begin one months ago as a little noise and now is too loud and performance is not good
unfortunately here in italy is very difficult to find a CIS fuel tester for checking pressure....
i take a look around the forum and found that a pierburg fuel pump can (probably??) solve my problem...
http://www.allzim.com/acatalog/Pierburg_Fuel_Pump__911_77_80.html
http://www.shokan.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=451
someone tested that kind of pump? will need to modify something in the fuel lines? will i need a cis tester to adjust something??
please let me know
thanks in advance to all

That is the correct part. It bolts in, and works fine. . .better than stock, many say. _________________ Toofah King Bad

My car's running a Pierburg pump. It's quieter than a new Bosch pump - should not require any fuel line mods as long as you get the correct Pierburg with same inlet-outlet sizes as the OE Bosch. CIS tester is good to have to verify pressures, but not absolutely necessary for adjusting (the only adjustment is system pressure (aka- primary pressure), which is adjusted by adding/removing shims (actually small washers) in the fuel pressure regulator), so it's unlikely for system pressure to get itself out of adjustment. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. Hallo Smoothie, thanks for the reply
so i will need to verify the connection sizes and threads before ordering the new pump, i'd like to know also where to buy a good CIS tester for the right price....
thanks

Over here, www.JCWhitney.com is a good place to get a CIS tester. They were selling at approximately $55-$60 US last time I checked.
This would be the correct pump. The Pierburg part number is 7.21659.02 - it has a 12mm slip on inlet, and 10mm threaded outlet. A 10mm to 12mm adapter is included, but you probably won't be using that. Reuse the check valve from the outlet end of your old pump instead.

If he has the original pump, he might have the internal check valve.

Ya I've heard the built-in check valve theory too, but as far as I can tell, the pierburg doesn't have one - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=24783&start=18
They do have an overpressure relief valve at the inlet end that I'm guessing some may be calling "check valve" by accident. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Hi smoothie, just noticed your reply from 2002!!
I'm checking if my pierberg pump had a built in valve, as there is only an adapted fitted and I believe I'm getting vapour lock warm start issues. Replacing new accumulator next week, but want to be sure check valve is integrated or not?
Cheers

Sorry Smoothie, I meant 2008 post!!
I bought a check valve but it's 12mm and too large for the outlet on pump. Need a 10mm to screw to the pump and 12mm for banjo fitting. _________________ Robert.
