car now runs as or better than new, after seeing all the SICK factory GTS at Rennsport, pondering full Carrera GTS tribute conversion, TMIC, 951 brakes , etc...
thoughts?
who has tips for best source for parts? _________________ PCA Licensed Club Racer & Driving Instructor Current P cars: 1981 931

GTS has FMIC not TMIC
I would not convert a 931 that works like you describe to GT/S.
The reason is that you will sink some good thousands in this conversion and end up lowering the car's value unless you do really good job and spend 5 figures on doing so.
The 931 is getting more expensive every day but only in original trim.
I have had the widebody red 924 for many years now, as you say...with 911 brakes, big turbo, FMIC and all that. Its a cool car no doubt about it...but i have learned to apreciate and love the elegance of the 931 body.
Here is my 931...i think it looks just perfect the way it is.

I agree, I would not tamper with a well-sorted 931. Tribute / conversion cars will always be devalued. Keep your 931 in relatively stock form, it *will* appreciate. If you want to do a wide body conversion, better to get another project. Find a cheap non-running 931 or 944 and start there.
If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend picking up a copy of Roy Smith's excellent book on the 924 Carreras. It will serve as inspiration and give you some fresh ideas on exactly which GTx variant to emulate! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I'd stay narrow body too if I was you, there are plenty of wide 44's out there already..
If you want some power and it be minimally invasive pick up a cheap k26/6 with a serviceable compressor on it and have that compressor rebuilt onto your 931 turbo, prolly can be done for around 500-600 total..
Then whip yourself up a FMIC system like mine, very minimally invasive, you probably won't need to cut anything at all if you go with an IC with 2.5" in/outs just by spacing the RAD back a bit on the bottom, keep your windshield washer and pop up lights and it should all be easily reversible.. You could even install your recirculating BOV from just off the turbo under the car to before the turbo instead of on top the engine like mine and it would still look totally stock under the hood having your BOV way down there instead of up top like mine and not mod your upper charge tube like I did..
Just installing the IC makes for a much smoother engine on boost and runs much cooler and healthier, noticeable power gain just from the IC too, I'd guess 5-10% right there just from drastically cooler IATs, and no more frying pan hot intake.
Then if you want add a boost controller of some sort and run that baby up to about 10-13 psi, WHAM whole new car for like $1k..
You can forget about WOT in 1st tho.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

i thought the GT/GTS has the hood scoop due to the TMIC?, no?
what is that large flat device on top of engine and directly under the hood scoop on the top of all GT/GTS? Is that the air intake/cleaner? _________________ PCA Licensed Club Racer & Driving Instructor Current P cars: 1981 931

GT has the TMIC thats right, but the GTS has a larger more efficient FMIC...but they kept the hood scoop _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Morghen, stance looks GREAT! looks like you did something with the rear spacers as you posted a while back, details please!!
I want to run my 17x7 porsche wheels on all corners for driving dynamics ( I did an uprated adjustable rear sway and have it set mid holes so far, car is VERY neutral, awesome turn-in and grip) but the rears are sooo tucked.... _________________ PCA Licensed Club Racer & Driving Instructor Current P cars: 1981 931

Fronts on that car are 15x7 ET52. Rears are 15x7 ET23 but on the rear there is a 21mm spacer. 195/55/15 tire will rub with this setup but camber and fender rolling can help. Or running a 17mm oem spacer. _________________ https://www.the924.com |
