tbh i have never found those extractors any good. maybee i am not doing something right, but when the thing is that tight something snaps, the extractor tool just doesnt get it out.
the best way i have found (and i would take the unit off the car) is to drill very carefully down the hole with incresing size drills, it will probably take 4 or 5 size increases, until you get to the edge of the thread, you can usually peel the remaining metal out. if you go over you can always use a helicoil or even better one of these

Thanks!

The cashier told me that the O'Reilly house brand of filters (can't remember the name, Filtercraft or some such) is actually made by WIX. The one I picked up today actually has the flow indicator on it, though the one I currently have installed did not. |
The Wix filter I ordered did work perfect, I've got it all in now just waiting on the banjo bolts to arrive. I took a spare set of lines I've got to Motion and Flow, a local Parker Store vendor here and they're going to make some new lines for me.
Thanks to Leigh I've got a new bolt on its way. Luckily it was very easy to extract since it already has the hole. I just hand threaded the LHD bit in there and it pulled right out, so that was a nice break!
Everything is ready to go just waiting on the bolts and she can get moving again after leak testing and whatnot. Once I have it running I'll determine where exactly I need to brace the airbox and redesign my configuration for support. I'm thinking I'll build a square brace with diagonals towards the hood latch point where the original brace went. That should leave open room and support it close enough to original design. _________________ '78 924 N/A |
