I'm using a Cavalier slave cylinder. I'm going to have to remake the hydraulic lines because the factory ones won't work in my bellhousing.

I also have my Ford Clutch. I was going to use Centerforce but after reading/hearing back things I went with Sachs.

The only things left in the equation are an intercooler, radiator/cooling system and a clutch master cylinder.

Looks great!

Glad to see you got the engine back from the machine shop so that you can finally make some progress!

Great project Nick. I recently picked up an AEB 1.8T motor and have plans for a similar project with my 944. I see you are in central GA too! Would love to pick your brain on some details and lend a hand when you need it. PM me with you info.

Don't forget what I said about plastic flanges/water necks. VW only!

Progress has been slow due to working 56 hours a week. I did manage to install my crankshaft, rods and pistons. I also made a shim/mounting bracket for my slave cylinder.

Engine in, timing belt installed. I'm working sixty hours a week right now so I have only been working on it about two hours a week. I'll have it done when I get some time to work on it.

Nice swap! I have a couple of questions:

1) What clutch disc are you using?
2) What pressure plate?
3) What flywheel? I assume stock flywheel?
4) Does the tip of the torque tube sit in a pilot bearing in the crankshaft? Does the 944 torque tube fit in the stock Audi pilot bearing?
5) Are you using stock 924 half shafts?
6) Were you able to plumb coolant lines to the heater core?

Ok, so its a lot of questions but this engine swap is very intriguing!!!!

1)Sachs 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0
2)Valeo single mass flywheel conversion. Comes with clutch disk (which you can't use) pressure plate and flywheel
3)answered in number 2
4)the 944 torque tube is the same diameter as the VW input shaft. Used a Chevy Caviler slave and a home made spacer. A Chevy Camaro one would probably have worked better.
5)stock CV axles
6)i haven't tried but I'm sure this could be done.

Here's a video of my first drive in it with properly wired computer.

How was wiring up the engine? How did you incorporate relays/fuses with the engine wiring harness? Can you summarize how you did it? The wiring is the biggest mystery to me.

Is there anyway to check for a "check engine light"? Might make troubleshooting issues easier in the future.

I also read in another thread that you had an oil starvation issue. Did you figure out the problem?

I actually had to have help wiring the engine. It's probably not hard to do if you have experience. I used a lot of the 924 wiring to power things. I have the ODB2 port hooked up but it's jist under the hood next to the computer. The oil starvation issue came from the factory oil cooler. It wasn't letting enough oil through to the head. Solution: throw the oil cooler in the trash. They fail frequently and aren't very good at cooling anyway.

Do you know how much room there is in between the stock K03 turbo and the frame rail? Could a larger turbo be installed on the stock manifold and fit?
