Euro bumper restyling required. Vent now feeds 951 bumper duct for the FMIC

It's alive again !!
Now I have some data logging going on, given my modified spec what kind of numbers should I be looking for (didn't record the first run out, just casual glances to the display)
Intake temps - pre IC range from average 40deg cruising up to 100deg on full 1 bar boost. 1.1bar sees upto 120deg. Post IC ranges from 18 deg up to 25-30 on full boost so the new IC duct appears to be doing its job nicely. Ambient air temps circa 12degs
Exhaust temps - 450deg or so cruising, didn't check on full boost but certainly above 700deg
1- 1.1 bar feels nice on the butt dyno, but clearly I don't want to push too far and see no rewards when maxing out the turbo. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Nice to have logging setup! would be interesting to see EGT numbers after some longer full load run. For example after a long straight on track. Will you do more logging? _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Definitely Cedric. Just out now on another shake down drive. Max numbers so far are (found the max recall feature!)
Max boost - 1.16bar
Intake pre IC - 97deg
AFR - 10.3
EGT - 848
This is after an hours drive on and off boost so not WOT on track with little time to cool. The pre IC temps drop real quick once off boost to circa 40deg, circa 60deg when on low boost. Post IC still stays circa 18 - 28 deg with ambient 12deg air temps.
Once happy with shake down I'll start to record the data. However I still need to input TPS and tach signals. What I'm happy with is no signs of knock so far over 1.1 bar which I did get previously. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Pre-IC temps so high are clear indication that K26 is at its limits regarding efficiency..
No wonder the pistons are melting on non-intercooled applications...
With my GTR intercooler I am barely 6-9C above ambient on the track with Schwitzer S2A running at 1.2 bars.. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

I would say that the temps are low, either the measurement isnt close to steady state or the measurement is taken a long way from the turbo. At 100% compressor efficiency(adiabatic) the outlet temps should be around 90 degrees in this case. And at 65% eff around 133 degrees, (guesstimation of the comp inlet pressure) if i remember the formulas correctly in my head. I would expect the temps to be well over 100 at least on a road measurment. Will be interesting to see some more measurements with some longer full load runs ! _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Dig this car so much there is a strong possibility I'll be copying the paint job on our current project car.

I have a VDO oil temp gauge, and a probe for it. i'll hook it up to the intake tract close to the turbo when i have the time, i'm quite curious about temps.
90°C seems high to me too. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

Did a 250 mile round trip last night and the engine purred away like a dream. Some quick scores on the doors of average results
Cruising 2-3000rpm
AFR = 14.5 - 14.7
EGT = 750deg
post turbo = 40deg
post IC sub 20deg
Ambient = 16deg
Light boost 3-4000rpm
AFR = still 14.5
EGT = 750-800deg
Post turbo = 50-60deg
Post IC = 20ishdeg
Short full boost/WOT through gears
AFR = 10 - 10.5
EGT = 800deg
Post turbo = 80-90deg @ 1.16bar
Post IC = low 20's
Ambient temp 12 - 16deg
A full WOT pull through 3rd, 4th and 5th up a mile long+ hill hitting 5,000rpm minimum on changes
AFR = 10 average
EGT = 850deg
Post turbo = 110-120deg @1.16bar
Post IC = 28deg
Ambient temp circa 12deg
On the long pull up the hill I thought I heard some signs of very light knock. My knock sensor is out for repair so didn't have this set up. Ignition still set at 33deg from 5000rpm so may need to pull the timing a touch as well as maybe limit the boost. Any observations in the numbers? Plan is to have a dyno session in the near future to ensure all is safe for the Summer. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Is it 33 degrees at full load? In that case pull it asap. I would not use more than 26-27 degrees for the safety.
Also if you already hear knock with just bare ears it is probably occurs already sooner. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

My error, ignition is pulling 8deg at full load at 1bar and above, and 10deg if it ever got to 1.5bar. So max 25deg, not 33deg. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

This is mission control!
Phormula knock sensor, Zeitronix AFR / EGT / Boost / Air intake temp (toggled for pre and post temps) All recorded onto a micro SD buy the unit at the bottom left of the console next to the manual boost controller.
The two green LED's are front and rear head temps via two thermocouples .... these are still work in progress as they display the correct cold temps but appear not display the hot temps I was expecting despite testing in boiling water before fitting.

Don't plan anymore changes to the engine bay anytime soon. All work is done here
Next job is to fit the Quaife LSD equipped G31 box I happen to have lying around. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

I hate to be the one to point this out, but that is not a MikeDanger Approvedİ engine bay. _________________ Toofah King Bad
