I am looking for some information and I have a feeling that this is going to be the place I will get loads of help.
Roy's wonderful book did an amazing job on tracking the results and chassis history for the 924 GTR race cars. It also did a great job talking about the amazing 924 D Production cars that raced in the SCCA. It has really gotten me interested in putting together and organizing all of my race records and results from the database/archives that I have.
I have a pretty complete list of results for these cars from the later 80's when they raced in GT3. I also have some decent results for 1980 in DP. The area that I am lacking data is the tail end of the DP era 1983-ish and the beginning of GT3 1985-ish.
I would appreciate any information and specifically results from SCCA National events and the Runoffs for any of the 924 competitors in D Production and the converted DP cars in GT3.
Any info is appreciated. Specifically I am most interested in getting complete results for Tom Brennan, Doc Bundy, and Stefan Edlis along with any results for John O'Steen and Mike Kovacs.
Race event, driver, car number, and result would be great. Any chassis info (prior owner/next owner, etc) would be awesome as well.
Thank you in advance. _________________ Love all things Porsche, especially 924/944 and 911 race cars.

Don,
I have Tom's car, and I have some of the results. I have Mike Cypherts log book, where he annotated every finish when he was running it.
Contact me off line, stamper at tromfg.com
If he is still among us, I have John Truman's number. Haven't seen him in years, he originally rebuilt mine when I bought it, and he did Stephan's car when it ran DP |

Scott,
Did you own the car right after Mike Cyphert did or after someone else? I remember the Braunlich brothers running an orange and green 924 right after Mike got his Honda CRX so I was never sure if one of those cars were Cyphert's car or not. I also remember Freddy Baker running a 924 just prior to that so I always assumed that was one of them also.
BTW, I left you VM and sent a PM. Thanks again.

I did a bunch of research on the DP/GT3 cars raced from 80 through about 90-91 or so. I compiled a spreadsheet of for all starts/finishes/drivers/tracks, etc. I'll take a look and see if I can find it. If you PM me your email addy, I'll send it along. No promises though because it has been a few years... |

Sorry, looked around and couldn't find the spreadsheet. I think it might still be on the hard drive on my old XP computer but that's in boxes in the basement somewhere so checking for it is not a snap of the fingers away.
BUT all is not lost. If you know the driver's name or car type or car #, you can find all the history I had in the spreadsheet at the SCCA archives:
http://www.scca.com/clubracing/content.cfm?cid=45949
IIRC, the regional and divisional history is also available but I can't put my hands on that right now. Might be there too, or Google and you should find it pretty quickly.
For example (sorry, this is a little messy but you get the idea):

I raced the ex-Tom Brennen championship 924 in DP in 1982. Joe Hoppen of VOA had arranged sponsorship from Herman Miller Porsche for me to acquire the car. The engine was fresh from a rebuild before the Runoffs, so I left it alone for the season. I did make one major change to the suspension: raise the rear pickup points so the suspension geometry would be right for the car in the lowered state. Two other key things happened pre-season...the SCCA added 150# to the 924 and moved a lotus from CP to DP with no changes. Despite the weight penalty, I managed to win all six races during the season with lap records at each track. I had Tom go through the engine before the championship...everything was fine with only a light valve job and new rings needed . Qualified on the pole in Atlanta with a new record with Dave Vegher next to me in the Lotus. He was several hundred pounds lighter and jumped me at the start. I was faster in the corners, but he would put several car lengths on me going onto the straight. We had a good race and both lapped the field, but he ended up on top. A great season nonetheless. I should have mentioned that while not the fastest, the 924 was one of the favorite cars I have raced. John |

Welcome, John!
Yeah, Atlanta is definitely a hard track to not have good top end at. I've been on the dealing end of that, in the 924; thankfully in ITB trim it's now the car to have on the long straights! But yeah, doesn't matter that much how clever you get in the twisty bits there, once the back straight comes around...
Cheers! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Derek,
You might be interested to hear that your father's car went back to its roots and now lives in Stuttgart.
