Wow, hooked into this course on iRacing this week. You east coast guys have some phenomenal tracks, what a hoot.

I haven't experienced it in iRacing, but I'm sure that's not as exciting as the real thing...

(was last there in Dec for a week)

VIR is a classic track with great history. Fun to drive, great technical track. There are places on the track where the faster cars can become (very) airborne. Too bad the oak fell down. That was iconic.

What I find interesting about it, and about Summit, is that there are spots where a minor error is virtually guaranteed to lead to big damage. Haven't really experienced "nut checks" like that out here in the PacNW.

Granted, I was driving VIR in a GT3 car, with the speeds getting. . .somewhat high.

Here's a Viper experiencing AERO DIFFICULTIES.

Summit only has a couple areas that can be costly (4 & while VIR only has a few areas that aren't costly (1, 3 and old oak tree 10?).

VIR is on my bucket list. Along Pike's Peak, Laguna Seca, Nuremburg ring and my home track of Road Atlanta.

Of all the places I've been, Pikes Peak is FAR AND AWAY the scariest place in the world. One mistake there and

AAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Down you go.

That video's awesome, Rasta!

VIR is the place we built FlyingCar logic for - the high-speed esses - in part. Check Youtube (search Camaro Flying Car - but realize we put it on the 'Vettes first) if you wanna know what I'm talking about.

Of course, it works pretty good at other places too, like the 'Ring.

For those of you quite familiar with it... heading into South Bend... the new (8-speed) AT Vettes rip off a downshift there which blows your mind... in a manual car, you don't even think about touching the shifter, you're trying too hard not to wad up the car... but the auto drops the car right into the correct gear and keeps going... one of the "secrets" on how it's faster than the manual. Turn 3 at Road Atlanta is another such place, downshifting while the car's off camber and unloaded...

That was during the Tudor weekend last year. I remember watching that live thinking he was going over but he didn't somehow. He wasn't the only one that weekend either. There were a couple of other cars that tried to fly but nothing else quite that bad. I'm wondering if they'll change the track a little to prevent a worse incident next year.

Me too! That was a really fun race. Plenty of significant offs with grass packing up the air inlets.

I dvr all the Continental/IMSA/Tudor/Pirelli/Patron/ALMS/TransAm (whatever they all call themselves now ) series racing. Love it!
