Every now and again when I started my car it almost sounded like it was hydro locking. The starter motor just stopped turning. When I tested the solenoid the resistance reading across the starter contacts seemed a bit high so I started looking for a new starter motor. I love modifying so looked for something a bit different.

It's still a 1.4 kw starter but it's only about 6" long and weighs approx 3.5kg. the only difference is there is no cold start contact on the solenoid to blast the coil with 12v on start up. They claim that because it draws bugger all current starting should be improved considerably. I haven't fitted it yet just wanted to know if the claims were true.

You should be good to go. A while ago Ideola did the legwork on these and quite a few members picked them up albeit by a different manufacturer.

Green tartan interior, you don't see that on a Civic.

I have one of those Ideola units on my race car. Small, light, seems to work well so far (using only a tiny motorcycle battery to crank).

Thanks for the link, made interesting reading as when I came to fit it, it fowled on the engine mount bracket! I tried turn it 180 and it was well off. The flange where it bolts into the bell housing was 76 mm, 82 mm on the original Bosch. Hopefully all sorted with a quick phone call. They are even sending a diode lead to enable the cold start function. Fingers crossed.
