How hard is it to swap this part?

hehehe, well judging from the 944 haynes manual I have,
you might as well do the timing belt and water pump at the same time,
in this piece is your cam shaft so you have to pull this and put the cam in the new one,

(if you are not REALLY mechanicly enclined I wouldn't recomend attempting this)

I would suggest getting the part if you are in need of a timing belt change, and just instruct the mechanic who is doing it to use this part instead

Crud, I figured as much.

If I were in need of front end service, I would probably pick this up. Those powder coated parts certainly look nice. Oh well...

THAT is one hot looking cam cover! Best I've seen since that Miata valve cover with the airbrushed flames I saw on eBay a year or so ago.

That bid is pretty high for how much effort it takes to paint those. It's pretty simple to take your valve cover off and clean it up and paint it. Powder coating isn't a whole lot different from any engine high temp paint you can pick up at the local car store. I priced the stuff, the most youll spend is around 5 bucks plus a little elbow grease.

I have a different opinion on powdercoating.----> It is much more durable than any in the can engine enamel.

When you powder coat something, the part has to be completely stripped to the bare metal with either an abrasive blaster or chemically stripped.
The electrostatically charged powder is then applied to the part which is grounded. You then bake the item in an oven and the powder coating melts. Providing for a very durable finish.

Using engine spray in a can, does not in way match the durablity of a piece which has been powdercoated. It may be alot cheaper, but you will find yourself doing the same job again down the road.

Did I mention you can get stuff powdercoated in any color you want?

Just my opinion.

agreed that is why people powder coat wheels instead of painting them

I decided that I wasn't even going to try if the price went over $200. Wouldn't you just know the thing sold for $202.50.

It never fails.

Oh well, another will pop up eventually. That was a very nice cover. Be nice to see one for the NA since that would be much easier to swap out.

Yeah yeah... I know.

It has just become commonplace for me to refer to the cars is the NA and the S.

Sounds just as dumb to say the 924 and the S. If you say 924S, it can be confused with 924s (more than one 924). Referring to them by color won't work here but is the only way where my wife is concerned. I could probably just refer to them by year but what happens when I get the turbo?

It's all just so confusing

Stu: Why not just have your stock 924 valve cover powdercoated?

Ok, ok... you're on to me. I'm just lazy and it's really ok by me if I find one already done

Actually, I haven't really looked for anyone local that does it. I guess I probably should eh
