Rasta and Matt, I apologize for offending you. We play in different sandboxes and you have many valid points about yours.

Back semi-on-topic... there's now another player in the field of endurance racing, and it might just be possible to run a '24 there (though of course in the slow classing)... American Endurance Racing.

Google it...

Chuck, we are all very passionate about our different series. At my age I know that I am not going to get called to race in the Rolex series, so with money being a bit tight, I am happy just to be racing. When you are door to door with someone else racing at 10/10ths, there really is no difference. Its racing, pure and simple. But enough of beating a dead horse. Lets move on.

AER looks good and I am thinking of WRL (World Racing League) also. These new "grassroots" series are a good thing for many of us. The biggest issue is preparing a car that is legal in all. Reading through all the rulebooks makes my head swim...LOL.

Gents,

Didn't want to bring it up and hijack the thread...but since it came up organically

I am actually the South Eastern regional coordinator for World Racing League and volunteered to do so out of respect for the options that it provides those of us looking to take our Club Racer cars and run much longer enduro events that SCCA or NASA just cannot offer at the budget level.

I just helped run the last event of 2014 for them down in Texas and we were completely sold out. Top winners were a pair of Spec Boxsters out of Colorado. Many of the winners in the other classes were ex-chump cars with teams wanting less contact and less fluidity in the rules mid race.

We run a HP to Weight class system to try and even everything out..but that is as far as it goes. The class system worked well this year....but next year we will be expanding it to 4 classes and an unlimited class for all of real monsters out there. NA 924s will fit in at the top of GP4 and will even be competitive within the GP3 field.

Just google World Racing League and take a look. If you have any questions hit me up even if you are not in the South East.

Just as a note, we are running similar format to AER, but we are running a lot more tracks to include Sebring as a 12 hour event in 2015.

Sorry , didn't mean to hijack the post.

Cheers,

Ian

Cool stuff, what AER and WRL are doing. I just wish the "step-in" wasn't so high; a 2 or 4-hr enduro is a lot easier to get your feet wet with, before the massive commitment...

Might be worth considering... though if the grid's full, the formula's working as-is...

Yeah, we are batting around the idea of doing a one day event in each region that consists of two 3 hour enduros...for that exact purpose. We know that some folks don't want to dive into a 9 hour race and then a 7 hour with their club cars, so we are open to options

The format does seem to work well, keep it semi pro, aka a club level event, and give as much seat time as possible.

There were a load of early 944's out at Texas Motor Speedway! For some reason they kept breaking their front steel control arms....I've never seen that problem before...and there weren't any really hard transitions at that track either.

Cheers!

IIRC, one of the tech/safety requirements for us to run the old pressed-steel/spot welded a-arms was that they had to be seam welded. Otherwise they break. I can send you pics if you want to see what I'm talking about. Just PM...

Top pic looks more like rust than stress crack.

Actually, they're in pretty good shape. No cracks there... Just trying to illustrate a good but not seam-welded a-arm -v- a welded a-arm.

I have a spare set, but no welder here in AZ, will have to look into this. Otherwise, been tweaking the 944 Spec-built 924S this week. After 8" of fluffy white stuff New Years Eve, it's now almost melted; 50+ degree sunny weather will do that! Had time to get the windows to work, still have to hold both passenger window switches at the same time to get that window to work. Good enough! And, the high beams work, turns, and brake lights. Thinking of roller-painting over the faded roof and hood with some contrasting paint. In the mean time, this weekend is another NASA DE and 944 Spec fest. Looking forward to two days of track time, if the 924S holds up! 70 degrees this weekend in Phoenix! High of 10 back home!
