I just picked up a 931 with an N/A engine in it. It doesn't run at the moment.
Seems like it was grinding the starter motor when i tried to start it up and its been sitting for years.
Just wondering what i would need to look at to get the car running or should i find a 931 motor and swap that in. I'm pretty sure it still has original transmission attached.

I don't have the VIN at hand at the moment. But its a 1980 4-lug.
I'd figured i would have to check the CIS and change all the fluids.
Brake lines are rotted so I need to do that also.
It started up briefly and just dies after a few seconds if the starter catches.

Errr at this stage you have a 99% chance its a rebadged n/a, start with confirming the model is a turbo as Paul suggested use the VIN on the firewall.
If someone has converted to N/A then you are in deep shit for returning it to turbo config. Engine flywheel clutch potentially torque tube ignition&sensors exhaust&intake manifolds the lost will be extensive and expensive
Good luck

i checked the VIN and it is a turbo.
Would it be possible to use the NA engine?

4-lug was standard in 1980 on the turbo and the NA 5-lug was an option for both.

Are you sure it is NA? Got any pictures?

anythings possible... and if it has an N/A engine in it now then it was converted to run this way... just how it was done though is the point...
If using all factory equip great, as mentioned it would be more work going back to turbo config now...

start by:
draining and replacing fuel/ fuel filters
draining and replacing engine oil / oil filters / tranny oil
pull spark plugs inspect for wear / clean or replace
clean rotor cap , check leads
clean all ground connections
remove starter and bench test
remove cam cover / turn over engine by hand and check for movement of tappets/ then set valve lash/ replace cam cover gasket
use a cis test kit and check fuel system and control pressures, it might be a good idea to check the spray pattern of the injectors whilst your at it.
set no piston at tdc, set ign dissy
start up and use a timing light to adjust advance to your model by looking though the flywheel inspection hole.
check for vacuum leaks
check your brakes haven't seized
this would be a good start...
