After finally getting round to fitting an original coolant tank so I can see the coolant level (and getting rid of the metal one I had where the level was guesswork) I took the car for a spin.

Indicated to turn left and the stalk has gone all floppy. It will go onto full beam if I pull it towards me but no right or left is possible.

So how do I remove the cowling from around the steering so I can see what is broken? Do I have to remove the steering wheel? If so is the horn pad (3 spoke type) just removed by pulling?

Am really at a loss and hacked off as Xmas is coming, the missus is whinging, and I can't the drive the car for the kids!

Ok,
pop off the rubber horn pad, might take a bit of force and generally helps if you get one side started first... remove horn connection from spade terminal
need a 24mm socket and long extension on a ratchet and get the nut off..
pull the steering wheel off...
undo the three long screws with a flathead screwdriver (check these haven't already ripped the threaded section out of the cast aluminium ignition housing) this is a common problem on the three screw setups...
undo the electrical connections and lift off the indicator stalks...
imagine something plastic has cracked or snapped...
if looking at replacements parts match the same stalks as you have, the four bolt setup is completely different in just about all the electrical connections to the ignition housing/stalks.

Wheel off, 4 screws removed but cannot get the thing to come forward more than 10mm

Turns out the metal round bit attached to the stalk is in an extra two pieces, but how do I remove the stalk and fit another - which I still need to source.

I heard there's different treatments available for that condition.

However a turn signal that stays on for more than 4 hours may be and indicator of a greater issue and you should seek professional help.

Undo the connectors. On my car, there's two of them at the bottom end of the steering column. Then it should pull straight out.

Found three connectors at the back of the column, unplugged all three and removed the hub. Yay!

Do I need to remove the curly clip on the right and then will it all come apart?

Put it all back together again and found the wiper is on intermittent even in the off position. Any thoughts????

TIA

David
