Thought the oil filter was leaking. Took it off and checked rubber seal and all looked good. Fitted another after a thorough clean up of area around filter, oiled the gasket before attaching filter and the effin thing is STILL slightly dripping the odd spot.

What are the big black thing and small electrical thing just above the oil filter. Oil pump and pressure sensor?

Starting to get annoyed with it all!

? …Sounds like the starter motor and the starter solenoid on top.
These don't use engine oil….

— Oil pump sits upfront on the bottom.
— Pressure sensor (25) is placed on the rear of the head, underneath the spark dist.

The starter and solenoid would sit left in this picture if it was attached to the engine.

Check your valve cover gasket. If it is old it may have become saturated and is dripping a little bit down the head. This is best case scenario.

Worst case is your head gasket oil passages have ruptured. Check just below the exhaust header with an extendable mirror and a flash light to see if this is where the oil is coming from. Hopefully it is not this...and most likely it is not...just trying to cover all basis.

Good luck!

There's a pressurized oil passage between the block and the head right above the oil filter. When it goes, it looks like the oil filter is leaking but it is from the head gasket.

No mayo in the coolant yet and it's been like it for a year.

Take it if it is from there it's a head gasket replacement

This head gasket failure does not co-mingle oil and water. It lets oil directly out of the system (and down the side of the engine block...)

If you look at a head gasket, there is a little ovoid opening at the edge about half way down the gasket. This is the failure point...

Phew! One of the many things I can live with as too expensive to fix.
