Do it yourself:

or give your "mechanic" these instructions and be prepared to pay quite a lot in labor.
924 NA bearings have a smaller ID than the 944 and 931 bearings, but the same OD. When I did mine I had to buy the bearings from a local bearing supply house. Cost about $80 or so.
A little search here should get you some part numbers or dimensional information for those bearings. _________________ Stefan

What issues would this fix? My car is 30+ years old and must need the TT bearings replaced. But would I notice it if I had them done? _________________ 1981 932 with mods:

You'll know when they need to be done if you hear them growling or feel vibration in the TT. |

This guy can do it as well. I understand his bearings are outstanding.

Or like mine, were rusted nearly completely solid due to water leaking into them from draining the floorboards. _________________ Stefan

Water would definetly trash them. How did that happen? The floors are lower than the tube. The only holes in the tube on top are for the shifter mounting bolts. Are you sure it wasn't from missing plugs the access holes? |

Could be, but it was rusted front and rear. _________________ Stefan

If water does get forced through one of the bearings, it would just slosh back & forth as you drive. Even if the car wasnt being driven any water sitting in the tube would destroy both bearings just from moisture being in there. Temperature changes will turn the moisture into condensation inside the tube.
Those plugs are important if the car will be driven in the rain or sitting over moisture. |

Ding Ding Ding... V8carreragts came up with the correct answer the quickest. Blackseard.com
Constantine is great to work with. He had originally had only the 25mm bearing inserts or bigger, but when I needed 19mm inserts for my early 924, he ramped up production using a sample from me to build them. _________________ 1977 924na BlackSeaRD.com Torque Tube SuperBearings, Xenon air dam, 200# Weltmeister springs, Bursch header, 944 exhaust, Audi throttle body |

I'm looking to use them too but it looks like they are in the middle of a move right now and are not open for business yet. _________________ '81/'81/'82 |

I have some brand new stock bearings for sale. They are for the 931 diameter shaft.
