I took the Saturday ITB race and Chuck walked away with the Trophy race on Sunday

Special shout out to emoore924 who just happened to wander by when my car wouldn't start before qualifying and helped diagnose a bad circuitbreaker for the fuel pump.

Special note: Do not put a $50 axle and CV joint set from CARDONE on your race car...

Nice to see you here! I was the crazy person attempting the 944 engine swap on my friends car.

Happy to help. Just happened to be in the neighborhood.

Regarding the axle, it is a longstanding, known problem that the bolts back out of the CV joints on these cars. Not sure your mode of failure but anyone racing should a) periodically (read: daily) check the bolts for tightness/torgue, or b) install one of those cv bolt locking kits found here and there on the interweb.

Glad to hear of the result. You guys owned it!

Funny you mention that. For the first three races after I installed that axle I re-torqued the bolts.

On the inner CV joint it appeared that the bolts were loose, but they did not fall out. Could that loosening have lead to catastrophic failure? It was pretty bad, the inner boot was blown out, the cage was free and one of the balls was missing. The outer boot also blew out. CV joint grease flew everywhere.

After this discussion I think I'm going to go with the stage8 fasteners. Seems easier than drilling and safety wiring. Thoughts?

I did the drill and safety wire for a long time, till the Stage 8 fasteners came available. Now of course we run those, and absolutely love 'em.
