Hi everyone my name is Ron and this is my first post on the forum.
I am bringing my 924 back to life after an 18 year sleap and thought this would be the place togo to get me on the right track.
First some backround on my car. It started life as a 1979 NA 924 in California. I bought it in 1986 and began modding it from day one.
I did a lot of autocross and time trials back in the day and got to know a lot or Porsche fans. The biggest help was Al from Partsheaven ( formerly know as Porscheheaven) ,he helped me build and modify the car.
Heres a quick run down on what I did to the car, as best as I can remember.
Suspension mods, Weltmeister adjustable sway bars front and rear, 5 lug 944s brake conversion, Koni Yellow adjustable shocks, 250lb rally springs f, Poly bushings on all suspension points, C.S.I 3 piece racings rims 16x8 f 16x9 rear, Dunlop D40M2's 225x50x16f 245x45x16r.
Engine mods;
Head was ported and polished, custom 40mm intake and 36mm exhaust valves, custom ground cam (forget lift and duration), weber throttle body, 10-1 pistons, custom 2.5" header and free flow exhaust system.
The body kit was made with the help of Mike from Infinate Fiberworks. Its 74" across in the front and 76" across in the rear. Features the Turbo nose with flush headlights.
The car has been in climate controlled storage since I finished it in 1995.
Before I put it away I drained all the fuel from the tank and blew out the lines in the injection system, I filled the crank case with 5w30, and coated the cylinder walls, cam and followers with moly lube, I drained and blew out the colant system, and flushed the master cyclinder and brake lines and coated the rotors.
Lastly the car was placed on frame rails and the interior and wheels and tires were removed and stored seperatly.
Here is what I have done so far;
Pulled the top end of the engine off, removed all the moly lube, replaced all the upper engine gasgets and seals (head,intake exhaust ect), drained engine oil, replaced valve seals and lapped the vales, and flushed out fuel tank and lines with clean fuel.
I havent put everything back together yet so I dont know how it runs, it had lees than 5k on the new engine overhaul when I put it away so it should run great.
Is there anything else you guys would reccomend I do to it while its all apart?
Lastly I am probably going to sell it once I put it all back together and have no idea what its worth these days, the paint and body work alone were over 6k back in 95, not to mention over $3k for the wheels and tires, lol.
I'd appreciate any input or advice you can give me.
Thanks, Ron

Welcome to the forum. It is a great place to be.
From what you have said, it sounds like everything has been done to maintain the integrity of the car and the motor. I think you are in the clear. So that is good.
I would like to see some pictures, it sounds like quite the beast.
You may find out that once you get behind the wheel again, you will not want to sell it.
Enjoy. _________________ Cheers;

Hi Guys glad to be here.
I'll try to post a few pics that I took real quick after I first unpacked it.
I was surprised that the dust went through the custom cover though.
Not sure how these will look but here goes.

Looks nice and clean!
The biggest problem for you is that a 924 which has been idle for that long and which is not original any more isn't worth much money... _________________ 911SC - 1980 |

Thanks, it looks just like the day it was finished.
I kept the front spoiler off to make it easier to transport it, it's a monster.
I have a total of about 10 miles on the new body and paint work, lol.
I forgot to mention the interrior work; The interior is two tone dark brown and tan, it has a new dash, new 930 turbo 3 spoke steering wheel, two tone 944 door panels with "Porsche" in raised lettering on them, and new carpets also. The rear seats are in great shape, the front seats are in good condition but have the normal wear on the seams.
My plan is to sell it and would really like it to go to someone who will appreciate and enjoy it as much as I did building it.
That being said how much do you guys think it's worth?
I'd be willing to sell it a little cheaper in as is condition which would save me the time of putting everything back together, but am not giving it away either.
Thanks, Ron |

I think it will be somewhat difficult for the "collective" here to place a value on your car. Although the racer in me thinks the car is awesome and has a solid platform on which to expand even more, I'm probably in the minority to which the car would appeal to enough to seriously consider purchasing it. The car is past being a daily driver for the vast majority and perhaps beyond the budgets of a lot of folks who are looking to purchase a 924.
I can certainly appreciate the amount of work that has gone into your car...not to mention dollars...and I think you're going to have to come up with some type of figure that makes it worth it to you to let go of the car, which I'm guessing won't be an easy decision. This car definately needs to go to a special home! _________________ '95 BMW 318i/5 ..."Pearl"

| You'd be better off parting it out if you want money. A project 924 is literally worthless. |

The unfortunate truth. You get a better return from a used boat. |

Stick in a SBC engine and you'd have quite the car.
Beautiful work, btw. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

I decided to keep the car for now and started to put it back together. I Made a lot of progress in the last month and found the car is in really great shape.
I pulled the head and sent it to a highly recommended local machine shop to have it cleaned up and gone over. Jim said everything is in perfect condition. It looked brand new when I got it back.
The block was also in perfect shape, the pistons and cylinders showed no signs of being asleep for 20 years. I lubed the walls and turned the engine through by hand and it was really smooth.
Next I flushed all the water jackets and had no blockages or debris. I also pulled the radiator and flushed it and again found no rust or debris.
The last thing I did was to pull the fuel pumps and filters and flush the tank and all the fuel lines (I had drained the fuel tank and blew out the lines before I put it in storage), the pumps all checked out ok. I won't know the shape of the fuel distributor until I put it all back together and try it.
The only thing I found that wasn't in great shape was the water pump which I was replacing anyway. |

Made some more progress this week. The top end of the engine is installed along with a new water pump and all cooling and heater hoses.
I decided to replace all the injection lines as well as the fuel distributor + wur to eliminate all those headaches.
I got the 4 injector lines from autohauz for just over 100 shipped. I sent the Fd and Wur to John at Special-T for replacement (he said he had the units in stock) as well as the supply and return lines, he's also going to clean and test the injectors and cold start valve. He was a bit gruff over the phone hopefully his work makes up for it. Will keep you posted.
