Could someone explain the wiring of the fan control switch on my 78? I need to rewire the new heater fan and the PO cut some of the wiring. I have two male connections on the switch it self, the plates are numbered 1, 2, and 3 on their face. There are plenty brown ground wires available,
I guess what I need is a color of the wires going to the fan motor connections. There are one male and one female connections on the motor itself. Also the wire colors going to the connections on the switch itself.
I have the schematic but it shows a yellow wire that doesn't seem to exsist in the switch area.
\I've tried the search method, but haven't found anything that covers this issue.
This is the last repair keeping her from returning to the road.
Thanks. |

You should have 3 different brown wires for the 3 different blower speeds.
Brown/black is direct to the motor (bypassing the resistor) and is high.
Brown/yellow and brown/white are medium and low- I don't remember which one is which.
Remember you are switching grounds (brown wire) to control the speed of the motor.

| Brian, Thanks. On my control there is two male comections.three plates numbered 1 2 and 3. I see the resistor in the switch. Is power to the motor a Black and red. and the grounds coming from the motor to the switch? Are the only connections to the switch the two male connections? |

From what I remember, the red male terminal on the motor plugged into the harness. The black went to the resistors, which were on the end of the motor. It then went from the resistors to the harness. From the harness, there were the 3 brown (ground) wires.
Mine has factory a/c so it is going to be a little different. Mine also didn't work when I got the car so I've been doing some reconfiguring.
From what I have read, the blower motor is running all the time the ignition is on. Then I guess you slide the heater control for the other speeds.... _________________ 78 924 |
