Well, the engine is on the stand, the head is off, plenty of bent stuff! I can't seem to compress the springs on the bent valves to remove them. Are these bent too badly to fix? The gouges on the pistons are not pretty either. I can replace those with some used Series II pistons.
Looks like the engine was burning a little oil too. Some oil at startup, but it went away.

Interesting. It appears that only the exhaust valves are bent.
Strongly recommend that you carefully inspect the rods. You might even consider replacing them.
Long after I disassembled the 941 motor, I was incredulous to find that one of the rods was quite noticeably bent...presumably the one from the #2 piston, which had the valve impressions and the floating valve guide. I'm guessing that the bent rod occurred from a previous timing belt failure and the previous owner only rebuilt the head, not bothering to inspect the lower end. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Sorry to say but I think all those valves are toast. Every single one has a smile on it Tough part will be removing them from the head without damaging it because you'll definitely want to reuse the head. I think it would be salvable. Like was mentioned, you'll want to check the rods too.
Sorry dude, a sad sight to behold. Did you figure out the reason for the failure? |

The front crank bolt backed out and the upper and lower parts of the engine went their different ways! I had the 36-1 missing tooth EDIS bit in front of pulley, hiding that bolt. I ordered up a new 36-1 from Dan, so it'll be behind the pulley.
All the valves are out of the head; took some effort. _________________ '83 944 Track car.
